If they didn't add Echo buff, a lot of people would be stuck on the old content, and would eventually make a thread on how the content is too hard....
I know you said that you're a pretty good player even though you can't/won't play that much, but it doesn't really matter how good you are if you can't get the right players to do the content with.
You are one of a few casual players that actually can do good (well, according to yourself ^^). The further the game progresses the fewer good players will be doing the early endgame content. That's why they are "nerfing" that content too, and not just extreme primals and Coil...
The later portions of the endgame was nerfed cause people like yourself wouldn't be able to beat it before you had everything ilvl100+ or something, and I'm not saying you're bad, but finding players that are good, patient and can get the most out of their job, isn't easy if you don't have a static.
The hardcore players don't care, cause they have already beat all that and put it behind themselves.... They were a little angry before 2.2 about the echo buff on Coil, cause they thought everyone would catch up in a week or so, but with the gradual echo buff (which has stopped at 15%), the majority of players haven't beaten Turn 5 yet anyways.
Also to Craiger's point, most of these fights have nothing to do with Stats or Gear. To a large degree they are all mechanic, awareness, skill checks.
So while yes echo does help players to be less than perfect and allow for mistakes, it still takes skill to down any of these bosses.

Here i will not agree!
If you are a true hardcore gamer, then you are willing to downgrade equip or do other things to increase challenge...
If you just like to have content only YOU can clear or items only YOU can get, then you are an eliteist. Hardcore gamers do not care what others can do or can not do!
Although, only eliteists need to play online games because the urge to compare with others, a true hardcoregamer can optimize in singleplayer games too because its a way of life...

Simple: Static programming doesnt care about skill of the single player, even balanced group content doesnt care on skill of a single player and as long as SE doing that way of programming the percentage will not decrease much...
In older Final Fantasy games you always could save the group, when one of your characters have the skill to do so. Mostly ending up in LONG fights because reviving and healing and buffing "again" doesnt allow you to decrese enemy lifepoints but you still could SAVE the group! -> in FFXIV you currently can not, weakness and too many AoE-Oneshots prevent from SAVING the group...

In older FF titles it was auto-phoenix/life + ribbon + max stats.
Yet I agree it gets overlooked because doing that doesn't decrease enemy life-points.
I agree 1 skilled player doesn't do much but you do need enough skill to not repeat the same mistake 50 times in a row.
