RMT tells/shouts

baffled with this whole rmt thing... If I was a developer or GM, I'd stay logged in all day & catch these guys for myself. I find it very hard to believe these RMT issues are all the result of hacked accounts. Which then leads one to believe these are all subbed accounts.... where are they getting their software & licenses? The same people are still here or come back after each wave of bans. There's clearly a disconnect in the account system that these guys are exploiting.

Blacklisting someone should automatically send your chat log to a GM for review. This is how EQOA worked. It would speed up the bans.. but there's still wouldn't stop them from returning.

I still say all offending accounts should be thrown to a locked Gaol server populated by fake accounts. No world transfers without GM review. Keep collecting the subs from the RMT accounts & let them send all the tells they want to a fake playerbase.

There's a few problems with this (and yes, I've heard this suggestion in every MMO I've played as of late, so flame shields up).

Most RMT accounts are stolen player accounts. Meaning if you instaban a player account, they're liable to get upset and run to every corner of the internet in rage. Bad PR is no way to go thru life. Otherwise, they often use stolen credit cards, which of course means there's laws and regulations SE needs to follow to report this to authorities/things they have to do to CYA.

To further my point above, if you account were taken (heaven forbid, yes), and they went banhammer on it, wouldn't you be upset? Wouldn't you want SE to figure out HOW they got your account to begin with (also read: wouldn't you take to the net in a fit of rage demanding a pound of flesh)?


While the "Gaol" server is a cool idea, it's still an arms race. You cut one head off the RMT hydra, 2 more grow back. Plus, how do you take measures to restrict RMT behavior without affecting legit players (aka the DRM debate)?

Every "simple solution" isn't quite that simple mate. I work in this space for a living....*sigh* believe me.
