    Exactly. This isn't a matter of realism or fantasy involving jump. Both instances have characters or people who have this ability. It's about getting with the damn times. Which sounds like the direction this game is going to take. They cannot afford to do anything otherwise. If this game was developed in the bubble that is MidgarZolom's nostalgia, it would be another failed try of reviving this game.

    Jump isn't that big of a deal and people won't come back to no Leave FFXIV just because of it.

    The people that don't like it will tolerate it.
    The people that do like it will spam it when they're bored or trying to be annoying on purpose

    Despite the fantasy setting, there's certain real-life rules the XIV universe follows. If you don't want to jump, dont. Walk around the environment. Problem solved

    If the most popular game uses some new feature, it does not mean that every game around needs to meld them into their gameplay. Now, sometimes these features are good, sometimes they're just an alternative that doesn't really add or take away from anything, and sometimes they are horrible additions to games that have no real point in having the features.

    This is the reason most action games are God of War ripoffs and most shooters feature a short hared Space Marine or Scruffy Soldier in a war torn dark and grungy setting.

    This has nothing to do with adding jumping into XIV though, I just hate this line of reasoning.

    What if your game is a triple A title that doesn't have dozens of features that have been standards in games since the mid-late 90's?

    And for the record, art direction and plot is not part of "modernizing games". There's dozens of Gears of War/Halo/COD ripoffs because the western FPS market buys into that s*** like popcorn at a theatre.

    But try releasing a GoW clone that doesn't have jump, or voice chat, or fast weapon switch, or any other common FPS feature. See how far that gets you.

    Not to throw fuel on the fire but God of War isn't all that original either. Devil May Cry predates it, and I'm sure that Devil May Cry took several concepts from previous games and modified them.

    I'm all for adding jump for this game but I wanted to point out that you can't jump in Gears of War or in any of the sequels. It's also a third person shooter and it's mechanics are much different than CoD or halo and that's what makes it interesting.

    If FFXIV was already a solid game then I would say we could do without jump but right now I think it's important that we have all the standard features in check so we can actually have some people playing the game.
