While there's nothing wrong with watching a video/reading a guide to familiarize yourself with a fight, there's nothing wrong with learning by doing either. To be honest, the latter is much more fun, and you gain better experience that way.

I see the OP point of view. I really enjoy doing things for the 1st time without a video.
I feel better about it when I get the win that I figured out how to get.
Sadly to many people have done it, or have watched a video and don't care and just want it done.
lucky for me, My hubby and I are in a really great LS yes LS Not FC that is always helping members with all kind of stuff.
Also I could watch a video 10 times, Doing something 3 times and I learn and I will remember. Watching a video is like watching a movie. Tell all the stuff that happened in the last 2hour movie you watched. Well most people can't unless they really think about it.... in which case in the heat of battle it doesn't help.
Commendations.
If I play dps I only give it out to other dps.
If I play tank I only give it out to healers.
If I play healer I only give it out to tank.
Only if they should be getting a commendation.
There are always exceptions to the rules!
Before people pitchfork you to death (hear me out!) I have to say this is NOT YOUR FAULT.
The way the fights were designed allow for zero adaptation and the ways in which the bosses can be killed at times is 100% COMPLETELY ABSTRACT and in no way readable from what's happening on screen.
This is simply labeled as bad game design in any other game.
In CT for example there's no way you could understand what's going on before learning the fight beforehand.
I don't know if this is a good or a bad thing but it just is what it is. Not the players fault though it's the devs who failed to communicate visually how to adapt to these fights.
I see how it can be interpreted that way, but not my intention. What I am saying is, raging at me BEFORE the first pull is just not right. I am often on voice comms with at least 1 other, if not all the other players in the party. My being honest, and informing you it is my first time, and I wish to give the fight a go, doesn't give anyone the right to belittle me before we even commence.
If you want to be like that, then yes, eat the penalty.
Just run content via Party Finder and mention that it's a learning party. On my server, learning parties tend to fill up pretty fast because there are a lot of casuals too intimidated by the hardcore minority and trolls to form their own PF so they wait around till somebody else does.
Tell you what, here's an idea. Unless you're immensely tied to your server because of friends or your FC, hop servers to ours, join our FC (we're recruiting) and we'll run you through everything we can. I will say the only thing we're not immensely active on at the moment is second coil, but there's a couple reasons for that. This is an alternative to simply giving up on things, because sadly, that sort of behavior and the mentality it's bred is not going anyway anytime soon, if ever. If you're already flustered and frustrated by your peers now in these encounters, finding an alternative task to throw yourself at in the long run may make you resent playing the game at all if you aren't doing what you set out to do originally. People who just craft a majority of the time, do so because they genuinely enjoy it more than dungeon/raiding, but not to escape the children of duties.
So, offer stands, your choice. Outside of that, make some PF groups with the words "learning party" in it so people understand that you're going into a certain fight to test the waters, not going at it as a pro, I assure you there are plenty of people who do not have every single fight on lock.
At least the op is being relatively polite in their post. We had 2 new healers in a duty roulette titan the other day that wiped us 7 times before heart phase and they started going off with obscenities because ppl started to leave. What they didn't realize is ppl stayed for 7 attempts that didn't even make it to heart phase. Dps was fine, tanks were doing their thing but there were no heals, we would sit at half hp after stomps and watch them go sliding over the edge again and again. I will help out ppl new to pts whenever I am able, but sometimes I'm just have time for a quick run or sometimes the players are just so bad there is no helping them, esp when they don't want to listen. With no quick voice system having to type complicated mechanics is long and frustrating, which is why ppl make videos or just mumble in the first place.
The blaming of so-called "elite" or w/e players gets really old.
Entering a dungeon like Ruins of Ampador or heck even Ampador Keep with an i60-something tank tho....that would be tough regardless, 1 bane I would get swarmed. You cannot fault players for being irritated at the slow pace when someone chooses to come undergeared when there are so many ways to get better gear out there. Expecting an entire gaming community to be willing to take an extra hour out of their day to teach you a run they didn't volunteer to do or maybe have time for is the real elitism. And heck they may be just as casual and have just as little time. Set up a learning pt or get a fc to do the runs with you. But please don't come into duty finder and cuss me out cause a 20 minute run turns into 80 minutes and I get a little irritated.

I dont understand why people are so entitled that they refuse to form their own learning parties and play at the pace of people who are like minded... instead of running to the forum to moan and cry that everyone else doesnt have YOUR mind set or play style....
Most people who put in the hours to learn these things, and beating their heads against a wall for hours upon hours just dont want to go back and keep doing this over and over. If a bunch of ppl want to make a farm party where only ppl who know every aspect of the fight are wanted, who is any one else to moan that they wont let you join when you know nothing about the fight???
Why do people expect other people to sit there holding their hand for them?
I dont get why topics like this exist. Everyone is free to make the party with the play style they want. If you want to make a novice or learning party simply make one and ppl who feel the same way you feel will join you.
Its incredibly arrogant, and kinda a jerk move to then run around calling people names like "elite so and so's" JUST because ppl are not interested in going backwards.... there are like 2 mil subscribers.. So everyone else is a jerk just because they dont feel as you do?? If new content comes out, and ppl advance faster then me, and form a party and they ask for experienced players only, I simply do not join them!!!! It is as simple as that. Its not for to THOSE players who formed that party that I show up and waste so much of their time that they do not get a single thing accomplished that they set out to do. And I would be the most selfish person in the world if I expected them to just deal with me at their expense. I would join a learning party, or join with my FC as we learned. and THEN I would join a experienced only party. I dont get why thus is a foreign concept.
Instead of complaining about it, just make a party. Because no one owes you anything. And you should not expect it. OR get mad just because you dont get it.
"How DARE those 7 ppl who know the entire fight not take me along!!!" "How DARE they not spend 60 mins just teaching ME everything I need to know!!! what jerks!!! Elitist whatchamacallits!!!" "Im too lazy to form my own party with the play style I desire" "Everyone must conform to MY expectations!!!"
Oh yea... everyone else is the problem...

Not enough Facepalms
OP, their time (and role) is not as valuable as they want to make you think. Next time just leave. They're gonna save soooo much time waiting 30 minutes for another tank lol.
I did HM primals for my pld relic and it was a very bad experience for me, not going to queue there again.
I farmed garuda ex on healer before (got the ring) to the point i knew the fight better than guides, but when i started trying it on tank i realized it requires a lot of practice (through wipes) to develop the required "muscle" memory. Watching youtube saves time on explaining the strategy to someone (otherwise need 2 min of time to explain it), but either way you will have to wipe and learn before team can pass. After playing a healer for months i got to the point where decent players have no complains to me, but for tank i need to learn everything again through months of practice, and players have a lot of complains because i am not a perfect tank yet.
I say - need months of practice before you can perform well enough not to be flamed by someone. Don't give up the shield, i think the best way would be to find a fc that runs a lot of lv50+ content and play with them, when you know the encounter perfectly - can queue there in the duty finder. You will also notice those people who blame you often die to the first landslide, cannot dodge plumes and take the very first mistal shriek - because they were too busy watching what others are doing.
