Lv50 loot shouldn't be tradeable for GC Seals.

Honestly, I feel like most loot shouldn't be anymore... Ever since GC Seals have been tradable for crafting items, which is good, it has caused everyone to just spam Need for loot they don't need.

It has made dungeon and instance runs hostile and greed-driven. Everyone just hits Need whether they actually have a use for the items or not, typically just to vendor it for currency. Back when Amdapor Keep runs were the big thing and GC Seals didn't have anything especially good to buy, players who didn't need items shared with Greed or Pass.

This kind of behavior is extremely detrimental to the gameplay community. It is entirely negative with no positive aspects. All it does is force EVERYONE to play as greedily as possible so that they have the best chance of not getting screwed over by the other guy.

There's no way to really force the system to disable Need for a player who doesn't need the item, so the best solution is to simply remove the non-usage value from the items.

I agree.

I started out just greeding everything, but as more and more people starting needing just because they could, I had no choice to join in because I'd never get an item, and being an omnicrafter, I kind of needed those seals to master my crafts.

But we need an alternative, and that just has to be a GC seal reward at the end of the dungeon.

I join plenty of DF parties where people don't even lot on these items. Can get Greed uncontested, even with a Need-able person there.

You could also do what people in your AK example did back in the day: ask people to pass on certain pieces.

The most egregious example was a CT run earlier.

Guy has a HQ i90 crafted belt. The i80 belt drops. He Needs.
- The belt is unsellable
- The belt is not Convertible to materia
- The belt cannot be used for Glamours
- The belt cannot be traded for GC Seals that I know of
- He didn't say he needed it for retainer
- He obviously wasn't using it, as it was strictly inferior to what he was wearing

He literally Needed ONLY for the sake of Needing, and outright said as much. One or more players could've put it to use now or in the future with that class. I got vote dismissed for calling him out on it.

That's the kind of behavior this causes. Greed, pettiness, hostility. Nothing good comes of this, it makes the game more antisocial, it makes players less cooperative, it discourages altruism and sharing.

It's a sad day when I have to point to the WOW community as being better and friendlier on a subject, but that is so when it comes to this.

Some people (like me) like to have full sets. We get twitchy when we are missing that last piece.... Even if its not useable.

You can NEED item on your own role too right? If you want item on that class, why not play on that class?

Other people play the same run as you, more or less. They have 100% right to need any item they wish to, just as much as you have the right to need.

Some would argue it's the PARTY's loot and not up to any 1 person to screw his party members over out of greed or a random feeling.
Further, if two were the same class, it's easy for someone who has no needto screw over someone who legitimately needs it.
Further still, almost all Green and Blue items are Unique precisely to prevent people from just taking items they don't need.

So no, it's not just 1 guy's item because the drop happens to match his class, the whole group worked for it, and it's utterly disrespectful to other players to deny them fair chance at things they can actually put to use JUST out of selfish petty greed. But hey, who needs respect courtesy or sharing in online gaming, right?

Unfortunately even if this was implemented, people would roll need on stuff they didn't actually need, for vanity or for their retainers. The best way to deal is either run on the job you're looting for, or set up an item-lock party in Party Finder.

Oh, wanna see something even worse ? I joined a group for Titan EX with my BRD, and there was another BRD in the group. The bard Earring dropped, I have the i100, both i90 and the i70 with full materias. I used NEED and got them, my score was 85, his was 84 and he was still using the i70. He should pair with you and whine here.

Or, perhaps, I should tell you the full story ? He died in P2, was raised, to die 30 seconds later on the next set of bombs, was again raised, to die on the last plumes in P3. We did the rest of the fight without him, so yes, I claim that he doesn't deserve these earrings.
