Don't care about pvp but a colisseum pvp-event could be interesting. Btw, not open pvp pls..
Well since Yoshi is a big DAOC fan expect to see DAOC style PVP in game, maybe almost ripped out of the game to a t. The saving grace in all this is from what I understand DAOC is the best ever PVP type environment ever created. Yoshi has stated he has never played FFXI, his main games were DAOC, WOW, and Everquest so I expect we will see something from each of those games combined to form FFXIV in some fashion.
I have no problems with PVP so long as it is done properly.
I liked PvP. I played Aion. and I agree we should have one, although it needs to be the one on coliseum and closed area PvP, not Open World PvP. To make less whine about it like "Archer is too strong, nerf it" or something of sort, we can have a secluded mode for classes/jobs in PvP. The Mode will be different from the one we used to fight in solo PvE or large scale party PvE. So If It's too strong/weak, SE can just nerf/strengthen the PvP Mode one, and not the PvE one. One thing I liked from Aion is that you can challenge someone into Duel anywhere. What do you think about this?

Lol, that's the first thing I though when I read the title.
Anyway, I don't care how big a role PvP plays as long as it's not open world with no restrictions. Gatherers wouldn't be able to do anything and you know a handful of jerks would camp the lowest. Rank areas they could just to grief. Duels anywhere, yes. Structured group pvp, yes.
"let's talk about all the good things and the bad things.."
gonna throw in my vote for B, for obvious reasons. but to make it even more obvious
I've played games where the PvP aspect could completely ruin my days enjoyment, could make me have to stay offline for a week, and it definitely does strange and savage things to the community in general, since such strong PvP relies on a somewhat mature audience to really enjoy properly.
But Ballista style PvP, now that's just an absolute blast! as generally only a handful of people take it too seriously.
With the current state of the game I can't even begin to imagine how skill could be a factor in PvP. The classes are all so similar that it would be a roll of the dice every time you engaged in PvP on equal grounds. ooooh, lets play a game of who can cast sleep first...
The game needs some serious rework before PvP could be feasible. The battle system is just too slow to make PvP fun.
Ask again after summer and we'll have a better idea of what we want for PvP, like perhaps PvP only being available for jobs and not classes (for balancing purposes).
Là á Bhlàir's math na Càirdean.
(Friends are good in the day of battle)
I don't care if they add PVP, as long as it doesn't change how PVE plays. As stated before on this thread, the day that PVP affects my PVE experience, I'm out. Got enough of that shenanigans in WoW, I don't need it here.
Speculation: It seems like the earliest type of PVP in this game might come in the form of FFXI's Conquest mode, where we represent nations as we're killing enemies in a given territory... but perhaps representing a Grand Company on quests/levequests/killing enemies.
As dull as I might sound, no direct PvP unless it's on a horde of rank 13 lalafell conjurers that suspicously teleport to Horizon en mass and do nothing, then teleport away.
I bet in the future it'll be like "You have a Coliseum. USE IT!"
Yeah, I'm with Mim and Apri with this. Make it as an arena, as it's the only way I would implement it.
