That's very close-minded of you and it's both an ignorant and selfish thing to say. Skewed PvP opinions aside, you wouldn't be forced to do it, so why not have it so the people that DO enjoy it can have more reason to throw their money at this game?
Because F.3.A.R., BioShock 2, and every Halo game since the first one sucked. You know why they sucked? Because every FPS that gets released that doesn't include some multiplayer aspect gets reamed out by critics and players, so everyone who makes a FPS takes too much of the focus off the single-player campaigns in order to slap together some half-assed multiplayer, even though the only ones who whine about it are the CoD kiddies, and they're going to continue playing CoD regardless, so why do they care?
The result is you end up with these great single-player FPS franchises with fantastic stories getting ruined because the status quo today is "We can't release an FPS without multiplayer!" And this has spilled over to MMORPG's. "We can't release an MMO without PvP!" Because of this, the PvE content ends up being lackluster.
So because modern FPS are awful or you had a bad experience with Aion you think FFXIV should have no PvP? That's just silly. PvE should always come first in an MMO, but that doesn't mean they should leave out the PvP experience. I am not suggesting that PvP should be the prime aspect of FFXIV like it is in some western/korean MMOs, but it should be available and the devs should put a good amount of effort into making it balanced, fun, and enjoyable (unlike the way they stopped caring in FFXI after brenner was released).Because F.3.A.R., BioShock 2, and every Halo game since the first one sucked. By the way, the first Halo had multiplayer, and it was fun. Half-life had multiplayer and it was also very fun. Honestly, what's your point?
Let's not and say we didn't
This is the point I'm trying to make. In FFXI, the PvP sucked because they chose to focus more on PvE. In Aion and WoW, PvE sucks because of the larger focus on PvP.So because modern FPS are awful or you had a bad experience with Aion you think FFXIV should have no PvP? That's just silly. You can't split your efforts. If you can't make both of them equally awesome, you're better off not even bothering with one of them. You gotta focus on your strengths, and in SE's case, their strength is PvE.
Boy, with a community as open as this who WOULDN'T want to join in on the fun? I can't think of one successful MMO that did not have any PvP at all.
FFXI. Ballista wasn't added until much later, and they did okay for themselves.
Except PvP DOESN'T suck in FFXI. It was unpopular because 1. You get practically zero reward for it and 2. They ran official matches on a ridiculous schedule where you had to plan ahead to join one. Some servers still have huge turnouts for ballista. Anyway, the beauty of it is that FFXI has the OPTION of PvP, so why can't FFXIV?This is the point I'm trying to make. Also, recent video to show I'm not just pulling shit out of my ass:

The issue here is the community being narrow minded when it comes to PvP. FFXI's is no different but the ballista community composed of some of the best players I have ever met, both in PvE and PvP.
<3> for me, please.
If I want to pvp, I'll resub to Aion. Games should play to their strengths, instead of trying to do everything.
