It isn't just that there's no new dungeons that cater to high level players besides the coil, but people right now are speed running "easy" (for them) dungeons for quick and easy mythology tomes for their animus weapons. It's a disaster when you got those players paired up with people who don't have the same gear and are new to the dungeon. If someone says they're new, take it slow.

Yeah, I tend to think I have thick skin and I'm a pretty decent tank, but man, it's hard to deal with people when I'm just looking to tank some junk and have a good time.

The situation is just insane. There is a lack of Tanks but people give new Tanks zero chance to get Experience and enjoy the Role. I tried all the 4 player dungeons with my Tank (including expert dungeons) and even with my low Item Level of 73, I can run them, keep the Aggro and it doesn’t take ages. But I stopped registering as a Tank and will wait till I got the Item Level up to at least 85 with the help of my main job.

No matter which dungeon I have entered, Wanderer Palace, Ampador, Pharos, Brayflox HM and so on, people were always expecting a speed run with mass pulls through DF. ALWAYS. When I start to inform the group that I am pretty new on the Tank front and that my Item Level doesn’t allow mass pulls, they either start bitching, calling me a “Noob” or “learn to play” and what not and Healers even leave. Some DD’s take my words as a challenge to give me the hardest time they can provide by attacking everything before I can even land the first hit.

It drives me nuts because I know how to play that class. But it is not possible to keep Threat of 10+ enemies with my Item level while Item Level 90+ DD’s go all out on them. Or pull them in two directions so I can take care of three groups. Crowd Control? No chance and never happening. Mob chasing is more what I do, always behind and never anything under Control. Just because I do not get the chance to build up Threat. It only takes a few seconds but I don’t get them.

For the Healer it is almost impossible to keep me alive in masses of mobs thanks to my DL gear. And it obviously is never quick or good enough what I do. So I stopped running as Tank besides when I am with people from my FC. Suddenly runs are Fun and everything is fine. But in the DF World? Only insults and leaving healers.

But Yeah, we need more Tanks. Of course. But only the ones who have 1000 hours of experience, have Item Level 90 as minimum, know all dungeons in and out and can pull the entire Dungeon without dying and loosing Aggro. For me it so far was quite a frustrating experience in Level 50 dungeons. Right now I am only using my Tank for Guild heists lol. So next time you miss a Tank when you wait for a Dungeon, better treat the ones you see with a little more friendliness and understanding. Not everybody starts with Item Level 90 and full experience…..

Don't chase the mobs. There is a song on Youtube, "You Pull it, you tank it". The only exception would be the healer, but it shouldn't be an issue.
With my bard, if I steal a mob, I go next to the tank and either I stop my DPS, or I attack another mob until my bar is high, switch to a third mob, etc until the tank has again everything on him. As a tank, if someone steals a mob (shit happens), if he's not running around, I get it back. If he's running around, good luck to him.

But when a DPS pulls mobs, just because he decided that my pull wasn't big enough or whatever, unless there is a valid reason for it (Berries in WP, Succubus in AK, boss when I'm holding the mob outside the room), I don't even try to get them back. My job is to pull and tank, and if you want to do it, I will let you.

There is a little known trick to enable even newly minted 50 tanks hold aggro against ilvl+++ DPS, get more Strength!

When I dinged 50 on my PLD I had luckily obtained ilvl 80 chest from CT the day before (gave me a reason to push to 50),
but other than that it was quested AF gear + GC Sword, but my accessories were aimed at Str and my 30 stat points all went into Str.

What this means is that I'm dealing more dmg, more dmg means more aggro generation and happy campers.

Sure my overall health is a little on the low side, but its enough to get started.

Regards gear progression I'd head straight for Myth Armor, and definitely get your Zenith Curtana ASAP.
I only run CT for glamour and low interaction myth farming (Whatever drops I got from CT were the last to upgrade with myth)

I wouldn't stress about it too much, if you spend like 2-3 hours per night working on your Tank, you will be i75 in like....2 nights.

There will always be a painful period of gearing (unless you collect gear for your new 50 class before they are level 50), but going through that period makes you a better player by learning to use every one of your abilities to try to compete with much better players.

I just went through the same thing on SMN, and although its less apparent than an undergeared tank, I learned how to get my DPS competitive with higher level characters pretty quick because I felt like I needed to. Now that my SMN is approaching i80, I feel competent on the class, instead of being i80 and having no clue how to play it.

I know its frustrating at first but it is very, very temporary from the gear standpoint.

Right, and I honestly just find it so confusing when I see low lv geared people, unless they're literally fresh 50's. The game practically hands you gear, but in the end it's up to you to take it I guess. I mean c'mon what do we have now a 20% echo on old coil ? The game WANTS you to hurry up and clear that content, the game WANTS to give you free i90 gear.

hmmm, I've leveled up 6 classes to 50 and while I would agree with you somewhat, my leveling has started to catch up with my gear. Usually when I hit 50 I could jump like 30 ilvls to 70 or even 80+. But between trading stuff for seals, job specific equipment at higher levels, switching from mostly DoM to DoW, my MNK was only like ilvl63 when I started my relic. I'm trying to hold onto some extra gear for my DRG and WAR but it causes me to lose out on thousands of seals if I'm not trading stuff in, and a lot of it drops really easily. Also people have started needing/greeding more. Gear is a little competitive now, haha.

I wouldn't mind an ilvl synch.
