a weapon type could simply used by more than 1 job. SE could add some new daggers that are only meant for the archer just like all the smith type jobs use hammer.

not to mention that there are many subclasses of 'dagger' such as Knife, langes Messer and so on or they simply could name it side arm dagger or archers blade or whatever. How hard can it be to come up with something that easy.

SE has hidden secret with that Archers will fight their fist, they forgot to add once archer gets pissed off they will start whacking the mobs with his bow, and jabbing their arrows into the mobs eyes.

or they could just remove the ability for glads to use dagger and give it to archers, no real point for a glad to use a dagger anyways without duel wield.
Right, there might be now with auto attack once they add in weapon delay, but your right, and there isn't any reason why there can't be sub-weapons like daggers, etc. But that would make things more complicated.
Still, I do like the idea about knifes in the shoes and let them kick at the mob.

The added advantage of taking daggers away from the Gladiator class, and giving them to the Archer class as a weak sub-weapon, is that it opens up the possibility of an additional Job for Archers down the road. Namely, those Archers that choose to specialize in their more stealthy Archer abilities and dagger use more than the average Archer.
An Archer that chooses such a specialization would be a Thief, no?
yeah or even further down the road ninja or maybe the cross class jobs they are talking about in the future, they could just make it a sub hand weapon equip-able by any class, would be cool to see THM/CON/GLD able to sub it as well or even crafting classes for more attack capabilities other then just rocksThe added advantage of taking daggers away from the Gladiator class, and giving them to the Archer class as a weak sub-weapon, is that it opens up the possibility of an additional Job for Archers down the road. A good archer won't have a use for close range attacks, nor would they want to be in melee range, so this topic is pointless in my opinion. Who really cares what an archer's melee attack is when it will:
A.) not be used much, if at all
and
B.) will be extremely weak compared to anything he can do with his or her bow
It's a good question, how this should be solved. Personally I wouldn't try from our FFXIV Archer make any type of Ranger with dagger traps etc, I like how it is now, as pure range damage dealer class.
In my opinion best option would be simply giving Close Shot (with different animation) for auto attack when in close range, just reduce dmg it gives, so lazy Archers still will be forced to kite. Better than fists ;D
what i dont get is why are you playing archer if you want to use a dagger?? really?? the only reason an archer would have to meele is if it runs out of arrows and in that case you should use scavenge until you kill the mob and the go buy more arrows.
