I guess I'm saying to queue with a SCH!
Stupidly powerful? Is this a joke?
We never get to cast actual spells due to fact any attack of any kind will interrupt the caster.

Our Swiftcase and Surcast is used to cast either Sleep or Blizzard II (for bind).

All we are good for is CC but the second anything touch us we die.

How often do BLMs actually get to cast Fire, Blizzard, and Thunder?
The answer is once in a blue moon UNLESS the enemy healer is dead and the opposing team gives up and lets you cast Fire on them.

Again, we are easily the rarest job in the game for pvp.

Nope. No jokes. Maybe I chose the wrong words there, but not joking. I've been royally fucked by BLMs plenty times. If you can even just keep the healer locked down, that grants your team a lot of control, and a large window to do a lot of damage. Maybe not you, personally. I'll grant you that. You have nasty cast times, and one reliable instant cast. Galvanize helps to alleviate it, but only so much.

Are you queue'ing solo? That could be a lot of the trouble you're having. Coordinating sleep/kill orders with strangers is rough. And they're likely to completely ignore it.

I'm certainly not saying you have an easy job. I'm familiar with the BLM's kit. I s'pose I should've said it CAN be powerful... with coordination and good job synergy.

You don't see many Black Mages because the job has a very high learning curve to play effectively. You need a deep understanding of diminishing returns/Purify timers, zoning and knowing where your CC will produce the most damaging yield in a match. You can't go in expecting to be hardcasting Fires and Flares, same as you can't expect to win games by sleeping everything moving - both damage output and control require a high degree of precision.

Even if a THM/BLM did pitiful damage it means little if the game amounted to a win due to their control over the match with sleep cycles and kiting.

By dropping down to Thaumaturge you lose access to Freeze, Manawall and Flare in exchange for a host of cross-class abilities. You're trading burst damage on-demand for hard support/utility. IR/BfB, Awareness and Featherfoot are all pretty great to have. Foresight however is ineffective in Wolves' Den.
