Everyone just assume it's easy for developers to remove the sellers... and it probably isn't too hard, but preventing people from just doing it again with another account, is probably extremely hard.
Also, like someone else said, compared to other MMO's it really isn't so bad... Don't usually get that many, and when I get one, I just simply press my blacklist macro and they're gone.
There always seems to be a couple that spams a certain area. So lets say you're in LL you get 3-4 spams, then you teleport to Mor Dhona 3-4 more then to Udlah 3-4 more. Your blacklist fills up quick no matter how many times you delete it.
It's inconceivable to me as to the reason that this is still an issue... Every so often we get an update that XXX number of accounts have been permabanned, yet the SECOND I log in & start getting the tells offering the same gil from the same website that has been advertising since I started playing.
Right-click, blacklist....
A few seconds later, I get a tell from a player name that is similar yet off by a few letters... offering the same gil from the same website.
HOW are these same RMT people able to continue getting accounts if they've been banned?
Thats a good question. I assume they just hack tons of new players. Which really sucks for them. I really feel players should be more strongly educated in game not to buy gil and the dangers of it. Not a lot of people go out and research these things on their own, and if you just use the arguement "Thats their own fault" that is a really poor way to view the world. People act like they were never taught things before.
They just need to give us the ability to filter tells that aren't from people on LS/Friends/FC/party...
I don't think Gil Selling is AS bad for this game. It's definitely not allowed but most other games rely on in-game currency to obtain end-game items/etc.
FF14 relies more so on the skill of the player/access to friends to run end-game and get loot.
I played Vindictus for quite a while and Gold selling was an issue because it allowed bad players to inflate the economy, purchase Cash items via Cash sellers, etc. This in turn cut profits to the game developers and caused many players to pay less frequently and as a result, pay less frequently.
Also I feel like f2p companies are more aggressive towards currency sellers because they need the consistent playerbase to remain active in order to make money.
Square Enix gets paid a lump sum and you're free to use that month to do whatever you want. You can afk for a month and they wouldn't care![]()
I really don't think it should be up to a player to routinely clear their blacklist to add more rmt spammers to it.
I've noticed weekends I tend to get a lot more spam, someone told me it was because SE only work weekdays for support, kinda makes sense since even forum replies they only do during the week
Compared to launch, I rarely see Gil spammers anymore. Nearly never in the cities /sh and only an occasional tell every few days. After launch, there were plenty of them in the cities and several tells a day.
I usually get a few a day as well but it's mostly the same person repeatedly spamming a site that doesn't exist![]()
