okay this has cropped up a couple of times so I'm just going to address it real quick... Feminism/Feminists is not an insult or dirty word. but like most "...isms" it has it's misinformed zealots/detractors. People need to stop using it as a dismissive insult...and now to step off the soap box

Wow, this thread is all manner of self-conscious or exploratorily examinative (I made words!). What it REALLY boils down to is people will do what they want, whether it affects you is entirely up to you and noone else... unless they get in your face about it unprovoked. Then it does affect you, but I've yet to see anyone even come close to that level of annoying... except RMT, but that's neither here nor there. It really is a non-issue and we'd all live happily if we kept it that way.

What it has become is certainly a dirty word.

In the context of the gaming industry it's a bunch of zealots who rush into every discussion screaming "MISOGYNY" and "WHAT ABOUT WOMEN?" when female characters have had a strong representation in games for ages now. Yes, some are written poorly - many male characters are written poorly too; it's not a unique sexist problem. Yes, they are often sexualised - and so are male characters. It's like in movies - the vast majority of the cast, male and female, have exaggerated attractiveness. That's generally just how media works. However, they are so hyper-sensitive to the "female plight" that they completely ignore all of this, and then go on to try to creep shame and use other form of shaming tactics on men to try to silence them and push their agenda.

It's just ridiculous.

It's too much effort to recognize Feminism as something that isn't stupid. When it's brought up, it is almost always accompanied by a stupid post.

Feminists who aren't misandrists or just screaming revolution to feel like they're doing something productive with their lives are a lot more recognized under the title of feminism than people who just want the same things for women that men have.

If I was ever calling myself a feminist and it was important to me, I'd just start calling myself something else - especially in the gaming community.

If I'm able to make an representation of myself in a game, I make sure to do so (unless it has awesome mecha-girls, like PSO). But this game won't let me make a fat guy, so I just make something I find visually appealing.

What on earth does 'creep shaming' mean? If someone is acting like a creep then yeah, they should be ashamed of it (though for the record, I don't think that making an attractive-looking MMO character counts as creepy, no matter what parts of its anatomy you plan to stare at). Personally, I know several women who identify as both feminists and gamers, and not one of them behaves in the manner you describe, so I don't know where you're getting your "information" from. You sound like one of those MRAs.
