EVE ONLINE. How it worked.

Sell Orders
Put stack of 50,000 up. A person could buy any amount they chose, and could only buy the cheapest available choice.
Example: 42 tritanium and 60 tritanium by two diff people, but person b has a lower price. You would choose to "buy" and would buy the cheaper of the two, automatically, in whatever QUANTITY you desired.

Buy Orders
You request what you want! You choose the minimum amount for people to sell you!

Example: I desire 50 Tritanium! Minimum amounts of 10! People can only sell 10+ at a time, but could sell 15, 18, however much they had.

The ffxiv Market is full of blocks to people who want to make money. They're inconvenient. Likewise, being unable to send items to other characters is another silly block, for which one merely requires a friend and a little extra annoyance time. And a limit to the amount you can sell anyways? "Oh no, someone will flood the market" So what? People flood it anyways, which just leads to better prices for buyers. The one thing done right is the sell time that is longer than most mmo's (EvE you could leave things on the market for 90days but a week is still plenty since it refreshes.)

Frankly, much of FFXIV seems to be stupid inconvenient trash meant to slow you down, and is irritating.

Agreed. Even with global AH (all servers share the same) GW2 have pretty healthy economy and flooding (AFAIK) was never a problem, on the contrary not being forced to buy preset quantities will make that harder not easier.

Small correction

You can choose if you want to buy from the more expensive ones, cheapest one is just sorted first by default listing sorting.
