Don't forget you can still run CT as a good way to SB, farm a bit of myth and get ilvl80 glamor gear. But yes I agree with everyone about CT1 and the coming CT2 some time away.

It's pretty simple instead of releasing.
Coil > CT > Coil > CT
Release
CT > Coil > CT > Coil instead.
This way its a natural progression to go from CT to coil.... easy to hard, instead of hard to easy.
So they should probably release CT1 in 2.3 and CT2 in 2.4 and then have the next Coil in 2.5 or however it works out.

Horizontal gear progression says hello!
Really hate the ilvl thing personally and having all my "hard" earned gear be outdated within a couple months, but what can you do.

Horizontal is worse IMO, you say progression, to me its like running and not getting anywhere.
Nothing is hard earned in FFXIV >.>

Gear is throwaway. With vanity it's all playing dress up dolls now, anyway.
Gear has been made the only real reward, but devalued by acquisition methods and constant deprecation.
There is a whole lot of "pointless" at end game, currently.

I do kinda miss CT, it was another thing to do during the week, which is never bad. I haven't stepped foot into it since the patch, why would I? Make the drops i90 with a 1 per week lockout, then I will run it. It still won't be great gear, but it can save me some myth. Or even doubling the drops would work. At least I could turn stuff in for seals if I didn't want it. There has got to be something to do with it. I queued as a drg weeks ago and avg wait was 1 hour, no way was I staying in that.

I'm curious, what do you consider not to be "pointless" end game?
That question is open to anyone who wants to touch on it as well. I know a great deal of people who play MMOs are competitive and desire PvP things to keep them occupied, while I say nothing wrong with that, I'm personally glad XIV is not catered around that mentality and is instead a PvE focused game. But at the same time, a lot of people have strong opinions about what makes a good/bad MMO at end game.
we need to beware what we ask for with this. Knowing SE, they'll make it so we can get one piece of gear from each turn of Coil after the next coil is released as a way of 'fixing' the problem. ._.

Or ya know.. people will run CT for the gear to be used in Glamour. Because, Hien.
