I got my mining up but got bored and quit. Basically depending on current sales you can make a lot of money. But will either need to invest lots of time and decent gil or huge amount of gil. Doh is just getting items for crafters. Won't pay as well. Honestly I don't find gil important in the game. Just doing quests and dungeons paid for everything I need as all armors are farmed in dungeons.

I think either one of you guys(or both), are mixed up with the abbreviations. DoH = Disciple Of the Hand. AKA: Crafting. DoL = Disciple Of the Land. AKA: Gathering.

It just makes you self sufficient which means you spend a lot less gil and gives you the capability to make a lot of gil even at low levels since ventures came out.
I leveled my crafts in 1.0 and it was much harder and more expensive back then. I still see the time investment as worth it.
If you want to get economically involved with the game, pick up DoH. You'll find its surprisingly addicting. If you do pick up DoH, you will want all classes to at least 15, then decide on what you want to get to 50. If you just want to kill things, then kill things. But for those who want more/ a break from wiping Titan Ex, both DoH and DoL are good alternatives.
Worth it in sense of what?
Gil? Maybe, but u dont need to be top crafter in order to make a lot of gil, good market sense or just selling kills will do the trick
Fun? People who like crafting never feel tired about it, others think it's painful

i can honestly say having all crafts at 50 i don't have to rely on anyone to craft anything i need, having all DoL as well means i can farm all my own items, completely self sufficent and gil is so easy to come by, and i levelled most of mine 1.0 when it was much harder, these days you can burn all crafts to 50 using leves and can even turn a profit on some.

It depends on whether or not you LIKE crafting.
If you do, then hell yes it's worth it.
If you only see crafting as a chore, then you're probably better off paying others to do whatever crafting work you need.

That's not true (unless you're "lazy" / power leveling) - it costs you zero gil and you even make a lot during leveling if done properly. That includes spiritbonding your own materias indeed.
Getting to 50 and gearing up crafters is pretty easy now.
The real challenge/ gil sink/ time sink is trying to gear up and become a master crater for that craft.
You need a whole butt load of gil to get things rolling. But once you are a master crafter and hit that sweet spot you'll be rolling in millions.
But you'll require myth items etc so that'll cost you hundred thousands. Start with a mill and profit from there on.
