    Lore regarding CNJ Protect

I always wondered when would be implemented Shell when I started the game as I just saw Protect.

I wondered because lore-wise, Protect is only for reduce incoming Physical attacks, while Shell would be for reduce incoming Magic attacks.

Later I've read in the buff description that it actually reduces both kinds of attacks.

Therefore, lore-wise, wouldn't the skill name be wrong? I don't remember a FF that had Protect do both. What you guys think?

IMO, It had to be changed to Barrier (which applies Protect/Shell altogether, like in FF7) and the texture changed from Blue-ish to Rainbow-ish.

Protect DOES only do physical damage. Later, a Conjurer gets the trait ProShell or something and it does both, which works out fine.
I mean, it's still annoying not to have both spells, but it seems to be mostly a matter of keeping the number of spells and abilities low.

Oh lol, never played with CNJ more than lv15 to get SCH so I never actually read the traits. Nice to know..
Then shouldn't it at least change the texture to 'pretend' is applying Shell too?(as changing the name I sense would be a bit extreme since would be a different skill name and probl new id, messing the hotbar when levelsync)

While I don't find that idea to be unreasonable, in that case it might be considered to be a poor use of development time and resources.
Though, really, it should show the blue hexagons of Protect (which I find to be great) when physical damage is taken, and the Shell spell effect when magic damage is taken.

Once apon a time back when mages could cast while moving and had weapon skills we had both protect and shell spells. If I recall correctly the two spells were folded into one because in the 1.0 system there was only so many spaces for abilities generated for each class and they wanted to free up spaces for job abilities. While I find casting protect for magic defense strange as well the last time the dev team messed with the spell white mage gained a trait to give the magic defense effect so sch could cross class and lost a trait that allowed them to raise someone without weakness. I miss it. At this point I'm kinda scared what would happen if they revisited the spell again.

The buff icon is different once you get the trait.
It also overrides a scholars protect because it's the more powerful version.

I don't like the fact that it still says "Protect" even though Proshell is in effect. While the buff icon does change (and is quite visible) it really doesn't convey "Magic Protection Included!", more like "Now with 15% MORE Physical Protection!"

While we're at it, why not just change it to Barrier, like the days of eld?

Surely there are tons of other blockade terms to be used for tank Limit Break?

Do note that the change was also made to increase the over pacing of the game when entering a dungeon and applying buffs. I remember how we would sometimes spend minutes just getting everyone buffed before pulling any type of mob, I think this change was done to decrease those down times.

It may seem like a very small thing for most players but as a healer who sometimes has to run after players just to give them 2 buffs, I would rather not do so for 3.

Edit: Also, this change is mostly a "continuity" difference from 1.0 and other FF games rather than a "lore issue" as this does not really change the story background of the world or any character.
