The thing is most people who actually tried to finish Animus are already done. I know several people in my FC are done with Animus because they spent the time to do it. If you take out the equation people who aren't trying to do one or ones that gave up because they got a couple atmas and found out they didn't want to do fates or whatever the number of people that are ready for the next step is pretty high. They shouldn't count those people who were didn't even try to finish or weren't actively working toward it.
Now I have to decide if I want to go for the 110 weapons in coil if the upgrade takes to long to be released.

Same, I was all into spamming the fates trying to get mine, but after a few weeks and still only 6/12 (haven't gotten a single one in over a week now), I've slowly stopped caring about it and instead of fate grinding all day, its turned into like ~2 hours a day, because it's never going to drop anyways -.-
Just from the myth I get farming coil/capping sold, I probably could be on my 3rd or 4th lol
If I was in charge of it I'd definitely just throw away the entire current system and redo it with the idea of making it enjoyable and well-implemented. Not going into it's conception with the idea of making it as stupidly brutal as possible because I can't produce quality content at a reasonable pace, while also using almost no developing resources at all by adding almost nothing new to the game. I'd probably add some cool boss arena fights like hydra, some group and a few solo battles based on the job. Because you never see anyone say "Oh man, I hate fighting BA monsters." Ever. Add in some cool cutscenes in between and boom, it's already way better than the current crappy thing they've got going. Might be more work, and I doubt it'd take people 6 months to do or whatever. But I bet people would at least enjoy it and look forward to the new upgrades instead of hating it and dreading whatever horrible crap they're going to be made to do next.
The problem with the current system is that it's just an excuse to force players into FATEs and lower level content again (Yeah I'm sure those ancient heroes whose deeds are supposedly in the books loved running Sastasha and Tamtara /sarcasm) for the sake of the new players joining with the PS4 release.
The questline should've been new trials/quests/raids, not rehashed old content.
As I mentioned on another topic. It's good that they're going in the right direction for making people work for stuff, they just did it horribly wrong :/ I'd rather have hard challenging fights, that actually feel like an accomplishment, over grinding days/weeks hoping to get a drop off a lvl 8 fate.
Imo, more timesink, less RNG. People will complain that they can't do it solo/in a day, but that's not the point of a mmo. Mmos are meant to have big timesinks and require teamwork (because it's not a single player rpg) and need something to keep people playing for long periods of time.
Tbh, I'd even settle for "Farm up X amount of items" over "Grind a level 5 fate and hope it drops", sure it's still grinding, but then you'd know how much you'd have until you complete it. You know, sort of how long XI's relic quests were (Pre-aby) or even Mythic >.> By X amount of items, I mean something crazy in the 1k+ numbers. As someone said, not everything has to be for casuals. Add in something that'll make people look at it and go "Wow, that's a really nice piece of gear, I should get it" and then other people thinking "Wow, that's a really nice weapon, but I know I'll never get it". There should always be gear in mmos that some players know they'll never obtain. Probably won't happen anytime soon, since the majority of people on mmos now are a bunch of whiney kids who want stuff handed to them, for no work and solo lol

I wouldn't fix it. Not everything has to be for casuals.

I've been working on my animus since day one of the patch and I'm about to finish book 4. Aside from the coil days (which basically leave me with 1-2 hours free max) I've been on that quest at least 50% of my playtime per day (when not doing dailies, Leviathan EX. helping FC, etc). And I play almost everyday, for about 5 hours. The thing is most people who actually tried to finish Animus are already done. I know several people in my FC are done with Animus because they spent the time to do it. The people that finished their weapons are those who play obscene amounts of time and that is by no means normal and a good way to judge content and how it's tackled; in reality, most players spend in game way less time than these people you speak of. I'm sorry, but your assumptions are way off.
