    SCH and the Allagan book

So, here's my situation as a SCH progressing through the T6-9:

I have the Allagan book from T5 already. Everyone and their mother knows Crit is a SCH's best secondary stat, and the book gives a rather massive 39 crit.

I know I'm going to have to upgrade eventually, as the High Allagan book is a pipe dream at this point, but all the other books between the two Allagans just seem so...lackluster.

My question being: When should I upgrade, and to what? Should I focus on getting my Animus? Upgrade my Levi book? Get the Book of Diamonds?

I personally like the Animus more of the two i110 (stat wise) books, and as a SCH I'm pretty much bottom priority on receiving the Allagan Tomestone anyway. Is the Book of Diamonds worth it?

Firstly, Animus is i100, not i110. So this leaves you with 3x i100s: Your Animus relic, a Tidal Wave Codex and a Weathered Book of Diamonds.

Out of these, the Tidal Wave Codex is your best option, but an Animus Omnilex is basically the same thing but with Piety exchanged for Spellspeed. Both work well enough and you don't need that Piety of the Tidal Wave Codex, but it's better than the Spellspeed of the Omnilex, seeing as the returns are kind of flaccid when you don't full-on build around it, which you are not doing. The (Weathered) Book of Diamonds has incredibly bad secondaries and your group is probably going to prioritize DPS anyway, with healers coming last, making it kind of a "meh" -option for now.

So now that we have considered this, we should add that acquiring a Tidal Wave Codex is not going to be easy, seeing as if you're gonna do it with a static/FC, the wisest thing to do would probably let the DPS have the Mirrors first - and even if you rolled on a Mirror anyway, winning is not the most likely thing to happen. So yeah, given how grim the drop rates are, it might as well be a pipedream. I've killed Leviathan about 80 times by now and I've only seen one Mirror drop - which I happened to win, by pure luck. (Other FCs on my server report similar or worse issues, with only a few people having a Tidal Wave -weapon of any sorts, them going over 100 kills without any mirrors dropping). SE stated that they are going to improve the drop rates of Mirrors in 2.25, but they are not probably going to make them candy either, just the more realistic 2-5% (or slightly higher) that they "intended to have", as it seems like it's at a sub-1% chance to drop at the moment, or something ridiculous.

So to summarize, you might as well work towards your Animus relic, as far as i100 is concerned. A Weathered Book of Diamonds is shit, the acquisition of a Tidal Wave Codex is going to be ridiculously hard, and with the Animus Omnilex being the same deal (but with Spellspeed) and given how it will be even further improved in further patches - it is your safest bet and the best investment. So you might as well roll with that until you beat T9 and get RNGesus to smile at you and drop that High Allagan Grimoire. Which might take a while. Buuuut yeah, healers are not really subject to that heavy gear checks, compared to the DPS or the tanks. So it will be fine. Heck, even your Allagan grimoire will be ok with its superior itemization.

Considering that an i100 caster weapon only has 1 more Magic Damage than an i95 caster weapon, that Crit is a disproportionately valuable secondary stat for Scholars, and that the Allagan book has such a ridiculous amount of Crit, I honestly think that the Allagan book is an equal or better option when compared to all three i100 weapons.

I would just keep the weapon you have, until you can make the jump all the way to i110 (at which point the gigantic jump in Magic Damage is going to make it the superior option, even though the Book of Diamonds has literally the worst possible allocation of secondary stats). I would only recommend getting the Animus if you believe that future upgrades through the Zodiac quest line will make it into a more attainable or worthwhile upgrade option - right now, it's a bit of a loser.

What Crater said. The jump from i95 to i100 is gonna be somewhere around 20-40 healing done on a non crit Phys since even 1 WD is quite helpful, but you're gonna drop ~2.7% crit. I think that your overall performance in combat won't increase noticably, if it does at all, by swapping to i100.
I didn't run the numbers for i110 Book of Spades, but obv we're talking 4 points of WD instead of just the 1 in addition to a whooping 8 mind - that will more than likely be a noticeable upgrade.

I'm just gonna rock the i95 Allagan all the way until High Allagan. As has been mentioned, the Book of Diamonds is garbage (and the tomestones should really be going to DPS first, anyway), the Tidal Wave Codex is okay but will be extremely difficult to acquire, and grinding shitty, boring throwaway content for hours just isn't my thing so I'm completely uninterested in the Animus. The massive crit bonus on the Allagan grimoire is really, really attractive, too, so it's not like you're using something completely terrible.

It doesn't really bother me too much and you can heal everything just fine with the i95. In fact, when the High Allagan book finally drops, I'll be going up 20 ilevels and something like 4 weapon damage so it'll be really fun to see the big difference in heal strength.

If you don't mind the awful grind for the Animus, sure, go with that. But you don't *need* to put yourself through that if you don't want to. You can do very well with just the i95.

good thing is that we need lot of soldiery for our main equipment so it's good we dont need weapon with stones as well
Personally, I stick with Allagan and work for the Animus and will probably switch them depending on situation until High Allagan
With the allagan book and soldier head/body/feet i saw a huge boost in my crit, it's happens a lot and it is super sweet

I agree with what a few others have said in this thread, in that I'll just stick with Allagan until High Allagan. The only reason I'll switch is if I somehow get a mirror or a way to upgrade to Book of Diamonds somewhere along the line. I'm just not bothering with Animus at the moment because screw doing level 11 FATEs while praying to RNGesus. Animus myth requirements I'm okay with, but haven't bothered with Atma yet. I'd rather grind Lev Ex in that same time..at least I can get i95 weapons for off-classes and/or that mount.

Allagan book stats are just too good to give up for the ilvl 100 options, and all content can be healed with ilvl95 weapons anyways, so I'm taking the easier (and semi-lazier) route.
