Possible new job thoughts. - Spoilers -

Finally got around to unlocking Leviathan, so I saw the cut-scenes with Thancred and whats-her-name.

Seems she is pretty enclined to start teaching her skills ASAP, so that leads myself and others to believe that this is hinting at new jobs, sooner rather than later.

From her near/far? east description and fighting style, I would guess she is a Ninja, including a ground-stab-explosion mejin gakure?

Thancred is described as having a less than honest past and strikes a few foes from behind, like a Theif.

So, we have a possible ??? -> Ninja + Thief setup coming along that matches the ARC -> SMN/SCH example that preceded it.

None of this is new information.

My question is, will a new item class be added 'Dual knives' or will we have a class of off hand daggers added.

    1 item, both hands.
    2 items.

If it is 1 item, two hands, that does limit how much we can customize our stats, but it would streamline relic quests and drops.

    Thoughts?

If you saw a 2-handed sword dps in any of the cut-scenes let me know, I'm talking about the dual wielders in the main story.

It's probably going to be like monks. They equip one slot but get gloves on both hands.

Kazamoto! Long time no see, pal. Have a like. XD

Notice that in that cut scene, both Thancred and Yugiri (i.e. what's-her-name) are using pairs of matching daggers. While this isn't necessarily indicative of any weapon mixing or matching options to be made available to the THF/NIN jobs and base class, I've become convinced that dual daggers will work in a manner similar to the PGL/MNK fists, where you equip a single item and wield one in each hand, as Tiggy said. Perhaps if we could see the other hand of the Miqo'te in the Through the Maelstrom promotional art, we could be more certain.

What about THF single dagger w/option of dual wield or shield via offhand slot?

I dont think it's going to be ???-> Thief and Nin. cause if you look at SMN/SCH, they are different roles. So i think other dual jobs will be different roles too.
This is where those Hymn items come in too; the jobs use different stats, so you cant be optimal on 2 jobs. So you kinda need to pick a stat, and be a little gimp on the other.
So i think it would be more like a str job, and a dex job.
Also i think it's more likely to be that *brotherhood* that will be class guild.

Separate equips for each hand would be great, but it's more likely they'll go with the simpler option. For example, suppose that there are individual daggers in each hand. How would they implement relics, extreme primal weapons, and Trials of the Braves? Paladin weapons and shields each require fewer exchange items, which combined total an amount equal to that which other jobs use for just a weapon, e.g. 2 Thavnarian Mist for Curtana and 1 for Holy Shield versus 3 Mist for every other weapon. If Thief/Ninja has interchangeable main and off hand weapons, how will they split the odd numbered amounts of tokens exchanged to obtain these items? They could make dedicated main and off hand options, but I don't like that.

That said, if there are single equips for THF/NIN, I would still like to see mismatched pairs on occasion, separate models for each dagger. They could give us Valiant Knife and Chicken Knife as a set!

They could follow the FFXI example/bastardization that was eventually supported and make NIN a tank.

Then we would have a Tank and support-dps coming out of a common source job.

On that same note, if it is to be a parry/evasion tank, dex would make sense, but if it were to be a pure dps, STR would be prefered.

Strength is the primary damage dealing stat for melee classes and jobs such as lancer, pugilist, marauder and gladiator. Higher strength equals higher Attack Power for these melee classes. Strength also increases the amount of damage you mitigate when you block or parry an enemy attack.

    Dexterity

Dexterity is the primary damage dealing stat for ranged classes and jobs such as archer and bard. Higher dexterity means higher attack power for archer and bard. Dexterity also increases the rate of your block and parry. The higher your dexterity is, the more likely you are to block or parry an enemy attack.

main hand could be a katana/dagger that acts as the main damage focus for the class/job while the offhand could be a "parrying dagger" that focuses more on increasing rate of parry as well as dmg mitigation through parrying.
