    Possible transfer inquiry

I might transfer to this server in July due to moving in RL. I was just wondering how the server is like if I play from a South East Asia country. Is the English population large (I don't speak Japanese)? Is GMT+7 7pm-10pm the server's peak time? How large is the end-game community (I am trying to get into turn 6, has beaten all EX primals)? How is the latency in fights like Titan EX?

The answer to all of those questions is: You'll be fine.

The population of JP to ENG is about 50/50, roughly. GMT+7 is the main time zone of the server (spans 7~11 mostly) and the end game community may not be the largest but it exists, there's usually always people looking for raid members.

I don't have latency problems, and I live in Australia, which has a ping of 200 ms to the Japanese servers I believe.

Although, some people are also based on South East Asia, and swear by stuff like Battleping or WTFast, so there's that.

Australia it depends on your ISP and location. Living anywhere but in the Adeilade/Melbourne/Sydney region you'll most likely get up to 200+, unless you're with Internode (I'm far north Queensland and I get 180 but Telstra/Dodo gets 255+).
SEA is closer but I'm unsure regarding the latency for them overall, but being closer to Japan than Australia is, you should be fine depending where you are. Majority of my raid is in SEA and they make do (Singapore and Malaysia mostly though)

I'm with TPG, and I live 4.2km away from the nearest exchange (max sync speed is 3 Mb/s), and I am based on the outskirts of Sydney (somewhere in between Sydney and the Blue Mountains). I have no problems playing the game, unless something wonky happens with my lines (which is usually during an odd hour). I don't use any VPN software. My pings to the server are about 220-ish.

I don't have exact numbers, but Tonberry have the largest EN speaking community in a JP server I could recall. However I don't think it's anywhere near 50-50. Should have been around at least 80% Japanese. When I queue J and E for dungeons and roulette, almost 9 out of 10 of them I ended up with the Japanese players. Queuing E alone would give me a damn long wait time too. Probably because EN players use the PF for stuff and hang around more within their own circle such as FC/LS.

Peak hours typically range from 6pm to 12am, GMT +8 timezone. Japanese players are still active in dungeon until midnight, but queue times can be 10-30mins for some J roulettes (just some indication).

EN players generally are from SEA, with Singapore and Malaysia forming the majority. There are a significant amount of Australia players here too.

Don't forget that Duty Finder works by picking players from a pool of servers in the same data center. According to http://xivsoul.com/, Tonberry is also grouped with Aegis, Atomos, Carbuncle, Garuda, Gungnir, Kujata, Typhon, and Unicorn - all of which are majorly Japanese populated servers. If you queue in E only, chances are most if not all will be from Tonberry (I once got grouped into an EN T5 group on DF, with a few players from Aegis). Whereas if you queue for J, there's a larger pool of players to choose from, and this is what it makes it feel like more Japanese players.

Ahh good point that I've missed. Thanks for highlighting!

That explains why queuing E alone in Tonberry seems worse when I was in a NA server. Seems like I've forgotten about data center groupings lol.
