Because.....
They didn't say Personal or Free company Housing specifically, It just said Housing and they were talking about FCs. So that leads me to believe he was referring to FC housing. The question is why say the above and then a few months later turn around and go back on it? Are the FC server really that bad that they cant handle the stress? If the servers for the FCs are having issues, Does that mean Personal Housing servers are going to be delayed?

Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
Well a Rep is going to have to step in soon and say something.
Really good (and sad) find, Arkista. :/ It really makes them flat out liars in this situation.
A lot of people say the whole comparing character deletion to house deletion thing is like apples and oranges because inactive characters don't block anything, but a lot of people can't play on the same server with their friends because of restrictions on character creation. A lot of servers are always at or near cap. Here's the current list.
Some people just defend SE for everything...
You yourself DON'T have to keep paying if you don't want to. ANYONE of your FC can go to the house every now and then... thats why is an FC: a collaborated effort; the "pressure" to check the house is NOT on a SINGLE person.
If you want a house for yourself, wait for personal housing.
If your FC is so small and nobody EVER bothers to check the house at least once for a WHOLE month, then you don't need it as you are actually not even using it.
Let me try to explain this using a really absurd hypothetical situation. I repeat... absurd and hypothetical...
Imagine that any server was only allowed to have 150 white mages. Once 150 people completed their job quest that blocked any other person from experiencing that content until SE came by and increased the white mage limit. You would be pissed off right? Here's this content you want to experience but because of the limit on white mages you're left sitting around until SE can increase their server capacity to allow for more white mages.
Now how much more pissed off would you be if you found out that a chunk of those people who unlocked white mage have stopped playing but left their characters around on the off chance that several months later they may develop some interest in the game and come back? Sure their characters are safely tucked away but since they're taking up all that space other people are locked out of content.
Now which is a better solution to this problem?
A) SE adds new servers to increase the white mage limit but soon enough reach the new cap and people are left waiting for the next upgrade, and then the next, and then the next.
B) SE makes it so that abandoned characters are deleted over time, the total number of white mages is still limited by the hardware but allows the total number of white mages to drop over time and lets new people experience the content while taking the resources that would have gone to increasing the white mage limit and improving the game elsewhere.
Now replace every instance referring to "white mages" with "housing" and see if this finally kicks in for some people.

1. Balmung (one of the most crowded servers) are barely, not nearly even full.
2. No one is saying we want to keep the house. Only you. Cause you are mad and can't offer a decent suggestion to help your fellow community.
3. THIS IS WHAT PEOPLE WANT. Again, suggestions have been put forth to FREE THE LAND. I repeat, FREE THE LAND, just give the absentee FC a consolation deed or whatnot so nothing is lost.
People are offering suggestions so people don't get boned and all their items lost without a single thought.
so you're saying it's ok that se didn't make enough room for everyone to be a white mage? because they can just get rid of abandoned ones?
so it's ok to wait for them to increase the limit if they are all being used but if any are not and someone can't be a white mage it's a travesty?
in the end it's a over sight like the server limit, there was a afk kick added because the servers weren't big enough for everyone to stay course the kick was added after they increased the server limit.
so what's the difference here? you stop paying a sub so screw you?
