I would like to make two points to this.
a) I do not agree with the way in which the Atma grind was implemented
b) Don't necessarily understand the whining on the forums about it.
My reasons are simple, the way SE went about how to acquire Atma was, in my opinion, wrong. To do low level FATES at lvl 50 with a specific weapon equipped, a HUGE step in the wrong direction to tackle this sort of grind. People like a sense of accomplishment while doing something repetitive. When you farm mobs for mats, that's your accomplishment, but you can do that with your full arsenal of skills so it hides well in the grinding effort. When you are leveling up your XP until next level is your goal and when you reach it you gain a sense of accomplishment and continue.
Atma farming removes both of these key ingredients, you sync to level and lose skills, you don't get XP, you waste time. Pure and simple, there's no carrot on the stick you just pound away until an RNG lines up in your favour all the while looking at the wasted time you can't get back between atma's on your way to collecting 12.
Now for the whining about it, well guess what, NOBODY is holding a gun to your head forcing you to do it. If you don't want to, guess what? DON'T! I can't stress enough that something like this isn't really supposed to be a 1 day farm thing and you have your reward, it's meant to suck up your time, but it's thankfully not a necessity.
In closing though I do feel that the way SE went about it was in error. I think there would be plenty less complaining about farming Atma if people were less restricted on how they obtain it, not needing a Zenith equipped would be a huge factor in this. being able to then take another class not at 50 and level them up via fates with a chance at gaining an Atma would be a simple fix to a ludicrous idea it currently is. Ultimately SE dropped the ball when they brought this out and hopefully they will look into making the portion of the quest still grindy but with more of a reason to feel inclined to stick with it without getting bored.
