From Healer to Tank

Hopefully it gets easier as I level up more!

It gets much much easier at later levels. Only time anyone gets anything off me is when there is a weird pull issue like a Cure 2 on pull and even then I get it back instantly. Glad/Pld is not so hot on group threat till 40+ when you get shield oath.

the only "issue" I ever have is when DPS decides to split up on 2 targets (not counting AOE). I don't usually lose threat but it does hurt the party and make you have to tab through your rotation unless you want to dump MP on flash or TP on overpower.

a bit of advice as well, create this macro to help pulling fast and getting DPS to target the correct item. This doesn't always work as mentioned above but I guess numbers are hard for some people.

I just can't pick a dps to level yet. My free company says that I should take blm from 26 to 50. I have SMN, but my stats are geared for my SCH. DRG or MNK would be fun... but that queue wait....

For what it's worth, melee DPS queues are a bit faster than ranged.

DF actually sorts the dps according to their range? I did not know this

Currently leveling a WHM and a MNK. I have to admit leveling a healer isn't the funnest thing in the world but i'll stick with it till endgame, plus it's be nice to be able to fill any slot when helping people out.

same, except DRG. Its tough in the 30s with WHM cuz its kind of boring but I wanna see what being a healer is like at 50.

I believe it tries to diversify parties. This is perhaps why you rarely see two SCH or two WHM sharing a full DF party. Instead 90% of the time I seem to get mixed WHM/SCH parties. The only exception seems to be Duty Roulette: Trials, and the Relic Quests in DF. But that is a clearly skewed group (relic progression). So my guess would be there are a lot more ranged DPS than melee DPS. Shrug. Dunno for sure though, just conjecture.

That's what I did, went from healer to tank and it's for the best. I better understand tanks and are more in sync with them than ever as a healer after leveling and enjoying Warrior. It will get easier as you level up more, I tank as PLD also now and it's not so bad gets easier. I enjoy warrior too and have easier time playing it but..paladin looks so much more cool...that's it..I got no in depth reasoning mechanics wise why just "looks..so..cool"

I went from healer to tank (though I'm back to working on my healers for now) and had no trouble tanking because I took what I saw as a healer and applied it to my tanking. I watch the aggro lines, I follow the DPS if needed in terms of attacking a mob, I have macros that help me inform my party of what I'm doing, etc.

Main thing is that you have to pay especially close attention to what you are doing and understand enmity.
