True, it can be somewhat exhausting running dungeons for tomes, I got burned capping philo before update. But with the books you can see actual progress, not lol 50 fates no drop for you
Yea I really think they need to say something or subs will start to tank mark my words. I just came from a game that was mute when it came to community issues and just continuously added Zerg RNG grind content. That game is failing hard and started going to a P2W where items in the cash shop went from vanity to giving players a boost.
As far as I am concerned I hate my self for buying a 2 month expansion card if I known what I know now. I just let my sub slip and moved on to something else maybe Diablo 3 ... As it currently stands I feel like I am locked in other wise I wasted the money. Which isnt good for them cause when someone ask me how I like FF14 going to tell them to pass..
To everyone saying just do something else... that's a horrible attitude to have and when the game does lose a bunch of subs and your in a Pay 2 Win game I hope someone tell you the same thing just do something else.

The Japanese language fora are blowing up over the Atma, too. I suspect they'll change it in some way, but when, and how, are open questions.
Well, some game design philosophies go like this (not just FF14):
Make top rank gear available by A) doing the hardest content, or B) spending a very long time on easier content.
This would appear to be the B option. If it was just that, I might be OK with it. Though it would be nice if they found a more entertaining way to pass the time.
However, the "epic" weapon is supposed to be an ongoing thing - to be built on in later updates - correct? That's going to put it out of reach for even more (most) people in the future.
For the current, keep in mind that equivalent or better weapons are already available. Coil item turnin, Leviathan, or coil drop (t9?). If you don't have the time, just don't do Atma.
I feel your pain. I am working on my 5th book. I feel sick whenever I enter Brayflox now, and I just hate the dungeon so much, but with the way the new loot is distributed through Coil. I won't get a iLv100 weapon till at least 7/8 weeks into it--and I am only basing that off priority of tanks being the least important to get a weapon in the raid group if you actually intent to progress.

I broadly agree, I like the split between A & B and I'm vaguely worried that Atma's such a bloody grind when it's in meant to a step in the ongoing progression - that said, we don't need to get the Atma now. We've got at least until the 2.25 patch before the next step so it may be worth hanging on for a while to see if they do nerf it. Maybe something similar to how the Beast Tribe Fates work, where you can stock-up on the key items even if you don't actively require them so you can get on with your game-life and go do other things.Well, some game design philosophies go like this (not just FF14):

Plus also they'll ease the difficulty by a hell of a lot once we hit 2.3, the way they did for the Relic and Zenith steps . . . at which point they'll introduce some new horror but hey, at least you're done with the Atmas.
Elder scrolls is coming, I'll just switch. Honestly if you have more than one book done you must live under a rock. No job, no responsibilities. I'm seasonal so I've had a lot of time off work to play and can't keep up. If you're on pace then you really need to do other things with your life
Don't judge other's life never ! ^^ Some of us don't have a lot of free time to play, others have more. The goal for a mmorpg is to make you spend time playing it so you will continue to pay to play. So there will always be time sinking ativities. The goal for game designers is to make these activities fun and/or challenging and/or rewarding. And I guess we can say the player's community agrees to say SE failed in game designing the ATMA thing.
Mistakes happen it's not such a big deal now the question is will SE listen to the community and change things ? As I played FFXI a loong time and if remember things like absolute virtue, pandemonium warden etc ... I guess we can say we are screwed![]()

Having not done any of this, but having played other MMOS (read many) I would say good. Im tired of the really good gear in MMOs being super easy to get. There is really no such thing as 'skill' when it comes to playing a video game other than pushing the right buttons at the right time. Not really a 'skill' as so many like to proclaim to defend easy gear grab.
Maybe this isnt the BEST way to do it, but it adds a barrier to prevent casuals from getting good gear. Also dont forget this is a JAPANESE game reproduced for us as an afterthought more than anything. For a lot of Asian mmos grinding is just part of the game.
