Now let's say that weapon A will be upgradable, but Weapon C will be out then which will also be better than upgraded A, and take less time.

    Is it really worth it?
Depends on how you mean "less time":

    A) Less time than the final step to upgrade A, which released at the same time as C.

    B) Or less time than all steps of upgrading A?

Also, it depends on what is required to get C:

My progression group is quite far behind. We haven't, and have no plans currently, to make any effort on extreme primals past Garuda and are instead focusing on learning turn 5. We are not a hardcore group, we only spend 2 hours a week working on progression.

    For SCH: Turn 5 (95) < Relic Animus (100) < Tidal (100) < Gerolt's (110) < Turn 9 (115)

We have only gotten Twintania to ~50% HP (only seriously started working on her this week), and as I said, we are not working on Primals. Turn 5 book will likely be a while because RNG, Tidal is out of the question, Gerolt's is out of the question because T7, and T9 is as well. Personally, I have plenty of playtime, but the rest of my static does not and that is fine. I spend my time working on my SCH book, even though its stats are crap compared to other options, because the raw MND and magic attack increase the power of my heals.

Is it worth it? For me, yes. For you? Maybe not. It all depends on where you are in progression.

Plus, the longer the Zodiac quest chain gets, the higher likelihood it has of being equal iLvl to top tier gear. It will possibly be bumped to 110 with 2.25, and maybe 115 with 2.3. Since 2.3 will be more CT, and no extension of coil, I could have a weapon that is better than everything but T9 because of raw stats, even if the secondaries are non-optimal.

That alone is worth the effort.
Until they start putting the ATMA up for sale for gil on NPCs on future patches to allow "catchup"

That's the last thing anyone should want. RMT would be C-blocking every FATE in the world.

Saying it isn't true is like saying you don't look at the complaints on the forums.
I got three in half an hour, two from two fates i know people don't like this but random is random sometimes it works for you sometimes it doesn't.

Worth or not it's up to the person farming it. For me I am working on my atma (just completed book 2) while at the same time farming Leviathan for mirror which have even worst drop rate, haven't seen it once in multiple runs. Not too mention not all my static is up to Leviathan farming yet, so have to pug farming group, that can fail terribly. So now I have 2 weapons for progression, Leviathan weapon upgradeable to i100 and relic atma that can potentially upgradeable to higher ilvl in future update. So I don't think it's not worth farming for atma, but it's not something that you should spend every single day grinding it, atma is more is a long term goal, better to spend time on and off on it instead.

most of you people are a bunch of cry-babies. all i ever see on these forums is, blah-blah atma too hard to farm, blah-blah coil never drops my loot, blah-blah i have nothing to do till next patch blah-blah-blah. why do most of you even play mmo's if you want the best gear just given to you on the first day or first week or 2 even. Its called, "GIVING YOU SOMETHING TO WORK TOWARDS SO YOU ALL HAVE STUFF TO DO" IF you dont like it, dont do it, in 3 months it will be nerfed an given to you in 1 day like you want, try back then, please look forward to it.

also i would like to point out that when SE announced this weapon quest, they also said it was never meant to be completed befor the next patches (hence the reason that the weapon isnt near full str as some of the other weapons in game). It was meant to take a lot of time. So rushing it as fast as you can until your brain explodes is a personal problem.

what i love is all the atmas do is boost the vitality on stuff. it doesnt actually increase the MOST important stats for a person so it really is just wasted time. hell, even the allagan weps give better stats when they are i95 versus the atma i100. If it increased the main stats i would say its time well spent then, but right now its just a LOLfest at all the atma parties in PF. i just saw those at launch and laughed. Basically they wanted everyone to be able to ilvl pad their way into coils and such XD

The title should probably change anyways. If your end goal is Atma then it's of course a no. Animus, I would say yes.

Tidal Weapon? Sure it is i100 but looking at the drop rate, I would safely bet a raid team of 8 will achieve all 8 Animus faster than all 8 having tidal weapons (10 in total taking into account of PLD and WHM shields).

The amount of individuals having the Tidal i100s are less than the amount of teams (note the word teams, 1 team = 8 individuals) that cleared T6, lol.

Sorry I must have this wrong I thought the zodiac quest was a long drawn out quest more in lines for a journey to show ones commitment at the end of the day and resolve. To give oneself a feeling of accomplishment for having taken under such a "grind" feat.

Dunno maybe everyone else was thinking oh zodiac not BiS? lolololroflcoppter learn to game develop SE.

    Could just be me.

Also on a second note, Just curious how farming T6-9 for that one drop week after week or month after month even any different than rolling that RNG dice on the same content similarly to fate grinding?
