Unable to complete market purchase

I'm trying to make a purchase of Dew Thread on the market board, but keep receiving the error "unable to complete market purchase".

I've made many purchases on the market board already, so it's not that I don't know how.
I have more than enough Gil for the purchase.
I have more than enough inventory space too.

The only thing that came up on a google search was that this happens when someone is selling an item that is purchasable from an NPC at a much smaller price, but this is not the case as the thread can only be acquire from a Weaver

The only thing I can think of that might be causing this is maybe someone else is buying the item from under you ('sniping', to use the informal eBay term), and hence that item is no longer available on that retainer. And if it's happening a lot, then it's possible someone's buying up the same item in bulk. Unfortunately there's not much you can do about this really except maybe wait a while and try again?

It's also possible that if it's presented by the same retainer, the retainer was pulled temporarily as the owner was changing things on the market.

Make sure that "more than enough" gil is at least 5% more than the asking price on the market board...
I believe both buyer and seller have to pay taxes on everything bought and sold...

That's incorrect - you pay tax only of the selling retainer is in another city than you're currently.

Anyway - this message is mainly displayed when owner "talks" to retainers which is happening more frequently lately due to the new retainer's ventures.
