WoW also has 10 years behind it. It also does have some features similar to this, though it's bare boned- You can befriend certain NPCs and invite them to come work on your property with you. WoW also has dedicated RP servers, which are very popular, because believe it or not some people enjoy the RP part of MMORPG. Aside from everything else I could say here, I think it funny you seem to believe that the same people who work on servers and battle systems and such would be the ones to do this feature if it were real. They have different teams to do different things, and I highly doubt the folks that work on battle would be doing quest and npc stories, since that's essentially what this is.

Would rather they not waste time on something pathetic like this when more important features can be worked on.

And just as many people would prefer they do this to more dungeons which people will have on farm status within a day.

You personally may not find it important, but plenty of people do. Not everyone wants all the new content to be dungeons or raids or anything involving battle, quite frankly I think a lot of people get tired of constantly fighting things each new patch. Plenty of people would prefer more "fun" or quirky content, such as a companion system/favour system, retainer weirdness, etc. Believe it or not, some people actually get bored of nothing but battle-oriented content. Adding extra "fluff" content helps add to the longevity of an MMO just as much as dungeon and raid content does.

And regardless of what you personally feel, SE can and will do whatever they want. If more people want this, they'll probably try to implement a system like this. And just because they'd be working on non-combat content doesn't mean they would completely drop any and all development for dungeon/raid content, yknow. They CAN do both.

I'd like to see a similar system, or something akin to ventures or the beastmen dailies.
Like, do something for the scions, and raise points with the group as a whole and get to know them better.

I know people saw it and immediately probably saw 'romance sims' and cringed, but I couldn't help but draw parallels to Bioware's party system. It'd be really interesting to go on quests for specific NPC's like Yda and learn more about them and become better acquainted. However this would require a lot of extra writing, and we don't know how long the scions will be relevant when the expansions open. While it'd be great to start a system like this, would it set a precedent to continue it into the new expansions?
We don't really know whats to come in the future so its hard to say, but I would still really like NPC related quests to go on and story missions with each of them. ): Sounds like a blast.

I'm personally in the camp that wants SE to add a favour system. I've always been a fan of side-content in these MMOs. When I played WoW, I went out of my way to level my reputation with factions, even ones that weren't relevant anymore, like the Thorium Brotherhood or Argent Dawn. In both WoW and GW2, I explored every inch of the map finding every single hidden thing there is. And now, in FFXIV, I've been dabbling in crafting and gathering, I enjoy the Beast Tribe dailies and do them every day, and I basically try out everything there is to do in the game.

If SE were to add a Favour system, I think it'd be awesome, even if it was limited to specific NPCs, like the Scions. I mean, who wouldn't want to be drinking buddies with Yda, or hear about Thancred's various adventures both before and after joining the Scions? Heck, Thancred sorta reminds me of Zidane, but with white hair and no monkey tail...

I want it, that is one thing SWTOR did right no other MMO has, the fact that you can forge relationships in an MMO. Yeah others have the same companions but I never care because it is my story and my relationships that are important, that and I do enjoy dating simulations to an extent whether it is something small like Harvest Moon or ME to a bigger sim like Sims.

...SE would probably stop short of letting you actually romance characters though, it would influence too much of the following storyline. But getting to go on side missions and learn more about your favorite characters? I can see that happening. thancred and I are just friends. good friends.
