That's a stupid idea, just terrible. I'm sorry for putting that way, but that won't be happening anytime soon. Why would you even suggest this?

SE already said they will support the PS3 through the first expansion, after that though who knows. There was an interview where Yoshi talked about this and didn't give a time frame but said something like they will look into dropping PS3 when enough people have moved to PS4. He also said, and I'm paraphrasing, that final fantasy has always been a leader in graphics and that's not currently possible with FFXIV because of the PS3.
I'm hoping by the 2nd expansion enough people have quit playing on PS3 and they can make some big changes once they drop those limitations.
PS2 didn't stop XI from having 5 expansions, 9 mini add-ons and continual monthly updates along with unique systems (Monstrosity for example) being introduced. Graphics aren't everything and mechanics aren't held back by any platform because PC only MMOs still continue to be bland and lack imagination these days for the most part and we all know the unlimited potential PCs hold.
PS2 stopped a large amount of changes and upgrades. SE said it themselves. Where do you think the meme 'PS2 Limitations' came from? They also for the longest time (almost 8 years) refused to give one platform something all platforms could not make use of. Even if it was just a UI change.PS2 didn't stop XI from having 5 expansions, 9 mini add-ons and continual monthly updates along with unique systems (Monstrosity for example) being introduced. Graphics aren't everything and mechanics aren't held back by any platform because PC only MMOs still continue to be bland and lack imagination these days for the most part and we all know the unlimited potential PCs hold.
Besides. SE has already said there are some UI changes coming that will only be applied to PS4 and PC (removing tabed inventory) because of PS3 limitations.
Let's see...
Players: "SE give us more inventory space!"
SE: "PS2 limitations, can't do that."
SE: "...Er here you go Mog Sack, Mog Satchel and Mog Case along with the final 3 Gobbie Bag updates oh and the Porter Mog system."
The PS2 was still supported when they gave us that additional space they said we "Couldn't get" because of "PS2 Limitations." Those who played XI and already knew better knew it was just SE not wanting to do something rather than "can't" do something, a.k.a used as an excuse. Know what they did recently? Upped the space XI requires on the HDD which magically removed a lot of "limitations" they stated, so no the PS2 didn't stop a "large amount" of anything, it only prevented tiny stuff people wanted like Capes, everything else was an excuse lol.
So yeah, if all the "PS2 limitations" were true, we wouldn't have gone past Chains of Promathia as that's when they mainly used the excuse.
Tabbed inventory is a standard in almost all MMORPGs, especially on the F2P/B2W side (they're generally called bags.) What SE was referring to was the icon display being limited, if it was in list format it wouldn't be a problem for example.Besides. SE has already said there are some UI changes coming that will only be applied to PS4 and PC (removing tabed inventory) because of PS3 limitations.

This would be very unwise to discontinue the PS3 version so soon.
Maybe in 4-5 years you may have a point, but right now the PS4 is too expensive to upgrade to for many people.
I would like SE to try and find a way to add new features exclusive to PS4 and PC users without ruining the experience for PS3 users though, such as the future planned add-on feature and 100 slot inventory and other things.
I still think the Vanity system should have been PS4/PC exclusive as it is clearly being held back by the PS3.
This so much.Sorry if this sounds cold, but do you really expect a company which has a business model set to milk 10$ a month really focus on those with such limited resources. I would not expect any company to spend big dollars for design and test on any console after a year of its successor being on the market.
Also if $400, spread out over a year is to much, you really should look into getting a better job or some budgeting websites.
It is not appropriate to limit the entire player base to what a PS3 can support for a small number of people who cannot upgrade. I say pull the plug sooner then later.
It wasn't held back by anything, it's the system they chose to go with. They could have went with the system that destroys your item(s) - I bet people would still say that's a PS3 limitation even though it's PC only MMOs that sometimes have that system.
