What Makes You a Top DPS Player?

The small things are the toughest things to do. Once you have mastered them, your DPS will be hard to beat except by the very best. These small things aren't appreciated or really even noticed by the average or even above average player. Watching a stream or having an in depth conversation w/ someone who excels at their class is really the best way to find out how they are doing so well. For a lot of exceptional DPS it comes natural & just seems like common sense. Talent /.

They probably have horrible keybinds, or none at all. In heavy aoe fights probably loses his cool and takes too much time to get back on the rotation, looking for his button or something. The time on boss should roughly be the same for dps barring any deaths (and in a static this should be an overall dps type of thing anyway). So what matters is wasting as little time as possible and to be efficient. If the gear is equal then the difference is in how the time is used. The better player will have better reactions, waste not a single second after the gcd, and doesnt get freaked out by aoe spam missing him by a hair.

Might be a good idea to do some dungeon and forcing yourself to not look at your abilities at all. Get a feel for the GCD, get good binds, and get familiar.

Good rotation, placing yourself in the right places, not wasting a skill.. not much more to it that that

Mainly, I've been playing MNK since day 1, I understand the ins and outs of the job, know my positioning, and understand my moves. I am currently in a static doing BC (only up to T4 sadly) but in every circumstance, I have been told that I am the top DPS. It just takes dedication, learnedness, and a desire to be better than the next guy.

Dps don't give jack shit about threat. A dps pulling threat from a tank is almost always because of a bad tank, except for a few very specific situations.
