Am I the only one feeling very sad about the "Favour" system being an april fool?

I'm going to make a post about this some time later, but I would really like this idea. I know it would be difficult to implement on a large scale basis, but at least on the core story npcs, I think this would REALLY go a long way to add a sense of relationship and connection to the characters that you spend so much time with, and have gone through so many things with.

It REALLY shows that they need to work on the Characterization between the Protagonist (You) and the NPCs that you experience the story with when Thancred jokes, "Are you just going to give me another of your stoic nods?" That's not a funny breaking of the fourth wall, writing team. That's acknowledging your laziness in characterization for all the world to see.

We WANT to have relationships with these NPCs. We WANT to be participants in their lives, rather than spectators. Let us, please.

Unfortunately there are people that actually do prefer it this way, the prevailing thought being that they want to interact through the world with as bland a character as possible so they can use their imagination to imprint their or whatever personality they wish. I don't get this, as when we're in a game like this all I see is my character sticking out like a bland mute with few if any opinions. This is also the easy route to take for MMOs where you're always treated as a generic adventurer.

It would be cool to have our characters somehow interact with the main story npcs in a more personal way. It's kind of what the main storyline is missing.

However, it would be really, really difficult and time consuming to do in an mmo that is structured like ffxiv. While they could probably make it kind of work I don't think it would ever work really well or be convincing enough to truly be a part of the story.

See, I like this style. Partially it's nostalgia for the older RPGs, but it makes sense to me that you should be able to imagine yourself in the place of your character.

You're not the only one. I think it's pathetic that players think they need to get their romantic fix from pre-scripted dev one-liners from poster child NPCs, rather than simulating the experience through real roleplaying with other players. How can they expect to feel like they're Thancred's one-and-only when every other player in Eorzea is standing around him getting the exact same message?

I thought it was real due to the fact that ffxi have it but once you high enough with a npc you can summon them to fight with you. So when reading this i was hmm could it lead up too that but when i saw garuda i'm like oh nvm it's a joke.

I also would looove to see something like this come in for reals. Seriously, even if it's not romance... getting to know the NPCs a bit better, maybe getting presents for them, getting assistance now and then, it'd be amazing.

Down the road, it might even be nice to have them in various main story/quest cutscenes react to you depending on how your own relationship with them is. It would definitely make you feel more a part of Eorzea, at any rate...

And I too am a bit tired of just giving a stoic nod to everything the NPCs say.
