Things That Annoy Me As A SMN

I haven't really done dungeons as Smn, so my input is grain of salt, but when I've solo'd with it, there was something I found annoying, which was when I was mounted, I had my pet on Steady since you can't Heel while mounted so I won't lose it off to some mob, then I dismount and if something starts attacking me that I actually want to defeat, if I hit "guard" it would go off and attack some other mob that already stopped following me instead of the thing that was CURRENTLY ATTACKING ME. So that's when I learned to only hit obey in that scenario. But I still think that is pretty dumb.

Then there's the fact that the level 50 Smn quest seems to absorb all the extra difficulty they decided to not give the Sch quest, which was stupid easy in comparison (and even in comparison to the level 40 Sch quest).

Anyway, Summoner mains are welcome in any party with me. I always appreciate a dps that can use resurrect in a pinch for difficult encounters while still doing their dps job like a boss. I was in a 1 Scholar + 1 Summoner FATE team, got best score every single one.

I don't know why anyone would think Summoner wasn't as good as other dps. Are they somehow not combining your damage output with your pet's?

Yep, the amount of PF parties that doean't want any smn is mind blowing. I tried to get some Turn 4 PF parties yeaterday, well, EVERY T4 out there only accepted BLMs. Later that day my friend and his FC was online, we ran T1 with 3 smn 1 brd, easy. T2 with 3smn 1 bard easy. T4, 2smn 1 drg 1 brd, Soldiers died nearly half faster than with my "main" group, in which we have 1blm 1 smn, and bugs aoes were fast too.

Good aoe dps, good 1v1 dps, E4E, virus, in-battle raise, slow(shadowflare), and people still refuse to even think of taking a summoner. I just can't understand their reasoning.

I've only just joined FFXIV on PS4 (I'm here trying to get some sense of where the game is heading) but I played a lot of WoW and I know exactly why pet classes are looked down upon! It's got nothing to do with the class or the absence of skilled players (after all, players who play Hunter in WoW often play all the other classes as well) but it has everything to do with the fact that pet classes attract a lot of players who only want to play a pet class and are basically using the pet auto-attack to offset their unwillingness to approach the game with any optimal technique.

We all know that an elite player can do amazing things with any class, but I think that pet classes have a deserved reputation for attracting people who aren't that sort of player. I guess people forming parties feel that on average that the prejudice gets them more robust groups.

Annoyances: contag/enk delay, players that run away from titan when they're getting jailed, tanks that move mobs outside of shadow flare after it's cast, that we can't adjust scrolling combat text to make our DOT and pet damage stand out.


I don't think there's a bias against smn after 50. They've been sought after as "BLM with battlerez", from what I've seen. Before 50, I assume most SMN are going to be bad...very bad. It's a tricky class to play.

excluding the delay of Enkindle and Contagion I find that Summoner class is a lot of fun to me. I used to main BLM but I was so bored using always Fire Fire Fire Blizzard3 etc.
Summoners have many abilities, and it's challenging because you have to think about many things while u use your abilities: order your pet what to do and what not to do, refresh dots, use in an intelligent way your AF stacks, virus, e4ae, resurrection.
Honestly, why should i go back to blm? no thank you.

So many playing favs in myth farm Ive ran as SMN in brayflox with a BRD second and BLM second and we cleared them around the same time. Mobs are cake for SMN if you know what you're doing. Rouse + Spur + Aerial blast ain't no joke. I usually use that combo with the first mob to give it a headstart to cd for the second mob. Then raging strikes + Swiftcast + Shadowflare + all dots + bane + contagion + run through the crowd miasma II for good measure. It may seem like it takes some time, not really. I usually have all that up before BLM AoEs.

I don't have any real annoyance with SMN aside from the fact I think the pets could have looked better. I love the class, its a heavy hitter, and can hit when everyone else cannot, insta rez (ive saved a couple of instances from wipe), has a personal tank. As far as skills go? only thing I have an issue with is Aerial Blast cd. If only it had the same cd as Spur we'd be first best AoE rather than second BLM wouldn't be able to touch us!
