im also a penny pincher, I could have 2k or 200k, 90% of the time, ill spend 5-50 gil for a porter rather than 100-500 for a telly

Porters need to expand the routes. Not being able to travel to gridania from dragonhead for example is just beyond wasting the potential of the system. It's downright throwing it away.

Also the fact that you can't even travel to grid from south shroud bar without re-routing is just insane.

I use porters quite often, especially when crafting and handing in leve items. I could Just teleport straight to the courier receiver's camp but using the airship and chocobo porter, hand in and then returning is cheaper. The extra few minutes I incur isn't a big deal because I'm usually watching stuff while I level my crafts.

Routes does need to expand though. Also needs clickable maps instead of remembering which is which. I remember the names of place but it would still be nicer to have both.

I'm always poor (yes, I'm a crafter and gatherer, but I do a lot of free stuff for folks and don't do a lot that brings in gil) so porters save me a lot of money without much more effort than teleporting.

Porter rides are relaxing and they do give a good chance to do other things (as others have mentioned, messing with gear and items or going AFK for brief periods) so it'd really be a shame to lose them.

They could definitely use some more routes though, some of the missing ones make no sense at all. "Oh, you want to go south? No, no, we don't do that here, you'll have to go north and then get another porter to further south from there. Be sure to wave on your way back past us on the way to your real destination!"

i think this is getting a bit sidetracked.... I wasn't debating if they are useful or not or how good or bad the routes are. or if you use them or don't use them.. I just wanted to know what you thought about being able to have a choice on which mount you used when you did use them.

    Sorry about that.

Honestly, I think I'd use another bird. Legacy choco is my current mount of choice.

Most would probably use Behemoth, Coeurl or a chocobo.

Being able to choose is rarely a bad thing.

I like using the chocobo porter much more than teleporting around- it's pretty relaxing to just watch the Shroud pass me by as I go off to wherever, and it makes Eorzea feel much more like a continent than a disjointed group of areas that you don't need to know the map for. I think OP has a cool idea here.

I use the choco porter for various reasons:

I want to get somewhere there isn't and aetherite, (or dismount halfway there), it's cheaper than teleporting, I'd rather let the porter get me there than get lost trying to find the way myself, I need a brb.

I wish the system were better though, and I like the OP's idea of using your other mounts.
