People really should use a powerful anti-virus program. I'm an IT expect, an engineer. The big brands like McAfee/Symantec are generally trash. If you want something that will actually protect you lookup ESET. You're correct though. That's how they do it, not via in game trade, but by infecting your PC when you visit a website and injecting a keylogger onto your system.Just an addition, RMT will also hack legitimate sites and install a script that installs a keylogger to anyone visiting the site, or they will have infected ads on legitimate sites (which is why no script and adblockers are suggested) One of the biggest hacks in FFXI was after the popular wiki ffxiclopedia got hacked, a script was installed and masses of people got hacked.
Just because someone doesn't visit dodgy sites doesn't mean they won't get hacked.

They also don't seem to be banning botters as well, this person on my server has been blatantly botting for a month now and they are on right now mine botting as we speak. I've reported him the first time I saw him a month ago and then yesterday again when he was farm botting banemites in north shroud.
let them hire me to do it I'll obliterate the gil spam 8hrs a day and do 100 times as many as SE has to date. it'd take about 20 minutes per server per day for one person to clear 90% of the spammers. just need to make those 8 hrs flexible so the spammers don't know a schedule. it would take 2 days to do all fifty servers.
seriously manpower for this is nominal at best and could seriously deplete the spam accounts they use.

I got hit with 30 at once, most of which all from the same person, it destroyed a chat I was having with some members of my FC. I had to ask them to repeat what they said.
Not only that, but it has even affected when I go into a dungeon and we're discussing how to defeat a specific boss.
Those dungeons are timed, not like we can say, "Oh hey, can we re-discuss everything again that took five minutes to do so? Why? I just got hammered with about 20+ /tell spams and it filled up my entire chat box so I can't see what you guys said, even with scrolling up."
As others above said, not only does something need to be done aside from deleting names that have been deleted already, but the blacklist should be either made into more slots than 200 or left infinite due to the number of spammers out there.
Heck, they should add a feature where those tells are erased as soon as you blacklist someone. Maybe even make it where you can state why you blacklisted someone?

se is banning gil sellers. the problem is they are banning them at a super low rate. they take a long time to investigate reports and during the process 5 new sellers are made. yes, we are getting rid of one every now and then, but too many are being made for them to remove them at such a slow rate. at times it feels like there are more gil sellers in the game than actual players due to the spam you get via tells.

1.) 30 at once is astronomically unlikely. obvious exaggeration.
2.) you can't send and receive /tell while inside an instanced zone.
3.) the chat buffer on PC should be unlimited. or near unlimited. and it won't dead-wall if the buffer is met. it will clear the chat box. and i have only known people to have this issue on the PS3. and this is due to limited RAM. so if you play PS3... edit your chat tab filters. and reduce the amount text input into your chat box. i would suggest starting by turning off all battle entries.
4.) yeah many people with many ideas on something similar. anything more accessible would be appreciated. i can agree there.
5.) how will you copy and paste the content for an RMT report? sure you can try before blacklisting... but then you have to deal with more possible spam. which will disrupt you from copying content properly to paste in the report.

I started a thread bout this but it died my idea.....
right click>report
All essential details are ready filled (time, date, server, player name) all you need to do is give a reason, maybe a drop down list or a seperate window with a optional comments section
What do you think?
I think that the Free teleport for authentificator user is a good idea to limit the ability of gils sellers to use hacked accounts.
It will not fix the problem, but it's a good move.
now the bots will be able to send out more bots to farm for them via retainer ventures
