Don't nickle and dime a sub/box game. Retainers may be logical but where does this mentality stop? I see Cash Shop on the horizon. I don't think the majority of you understand how bad a Cash Shop ruins a game. Even if it's a vanity shop (not that they ever stay vanity).

There's a high demand for cash shops/pay for advantages (even though it's artificially created by taking out stuff they would normally put in the game) hence why RMT is out of control. Sad, but the truth. Like when I played Diablo 3 items being sold on rmt ah was going for 250 dollars a piece real money and players were buying it up. When I was playing DCUO and they came out of replay badges to unlock lockout raids for the best gear players were spending over a years worth of sub price for the advantage of being geared.

Aside from the terrible precedent it sets, it's the "per month" thing that's really troubling. People are really okay with spending what could eventually be hundreds of dollars on some additional storage space an auction house slots? It's absurd. If they're going to go down that route (and they really, really shouldn't have), they should at least do the sane thing and make it a one time fee. Even free-to-play MMOs get that part right.

On topic, I blame the Industry as a whole setting the terrible precedent to begin with and the player demand purchasing it. SE seems to be just following what's past practiced via a different method.

At least they didn't do what ESO did.

"There will be no paywall beyond the sub"

Do this:
Collector's Edition = paywall for a damn playable race.
