I never said anyone needed to buy anything. No one needs to purchase a subscription in the first place, plenty of other games to play if they want. Or, they could just go outside and do things out there for free.
I just look at it this way... if SE released i150 gear and charged $1 a piece for it, would you buy it? You wouldn't NEED too, but, if you wanted to play the game at the highest level it would be a requirement.
What if they released additional maps/areas/dungeons and charged a couple bucks a piece for them, and they dropped the top gear in the game?
I mean, no one is forcing you to buy it, but, if you want to play the game at the highest level you need to purchase these additional features.
Same deal with extra retainers. If you want to make the most gil possible then you need to purchase a third retainer. Third retainer means 20 more market board slots, it means more inventory slots, it means more item acquisition through ventures.
No one argued that SE was forcing customers to buy the retaininer. My point is that if you want to play the game at the highest level possible, you do need to purcahse this retainer. Sure, people can choose not to play the game at that level, but, now they are at a disadvantage because they didn't want to pay more cash to SE every month. I think that's bogus and it sends a very bad message to the community.
(patiently waiting for the, "if you don't like it then... GET OUT!" post from a white knight who doesn't bother to actually try to understand what I'm saying)
