I'm not sure I believe this is actually happening or is any kind of real problem. The OP story is just too vague and lacks any kind of source. I'm not saying the OP is being untruthful in that he obviously believes this rumour, lacking in details though it may be.

But as others have noted, T1-T3 are just so easy with a decently geared group. If it took place just leave and get the word out and these people soon won't be finding anyone who wants to group with them. And with T3-T4, I just don't believe that it works. Weak players who might be tempted to go along with extortion aren't going to be benefited because they require everyone being at the top of their game.

It's obvious that the fight between light and darkness is not just something that happens during this game's story. Sadly, that fight exists in the real world too, and it's inevitable that it comes into the game. We have to deal with it.

If you see someone trying to take advantage of another player, first talk about it, and then report it (the more of you that do this, the better). Don't be the silent one that never says anything and that lets these people do whatever they feel like. They won't do you anything, I promise, and if they try to spam you add them to your blacklist, report them again, and enjoy yourself thinking on their most than likely ban.

Anyway, you can still talk with the griefers and recommend said player to report them, or report them you all if you're all in the same situation. Also, it's likely that if you try to talk with them they'll respond you in a less than friendly manner and you'll be able to report them yourself too. These people are like that.

But what I mean is that passivity doesn't make things better nor will improve the community, and that thinking "it's not worth my time to speak against it/report it" just ensures that these people will, at the very least, keep making other people lose their time If SE gets enough reports, I'm sure that they'll act against them.

I just heard about it yesterday in the chat of one of my linkshells.

A team of people are taking people into Coil and then half way thru, stopping play and refusing to continue unless they are paid 100K Gil.

I have a very hard time believing this story.

1. Players and groups who have the mercenary attitude will eventually sell Coil runs T1-5 soon, but quite simply upfront; just like they used to for Titan HM and now the Extreme Mode primals.
2. Said merc players used to sell Titan for 500k gil on the server I'm on, you can get all three EM Primals for 2 million gil now. 100k is not even worth writing home about for a Coil carry, with all the loot the carried person will get on T1-5.
3. There's no way for the scammers in this story to force their victims to pay up the ransom. There's nothing stopping the victims from just leaving and trying again with different people.
4. You can't even trade in a dungeon.
5. No. Just no.

So, since you can't trade inside an instance you're supposed to leave, give the people that just scammed you tons of Gil, then trust them enough to reenter the instance and start over from the beginning (the same place your have started from if you told them to go to hell and got a new group)? You sir are gullible if you'd think this ever happened even once. It's just impossible to think this scenario would end with Gil being exchanged.
