Speaking of which i wonder if Allagan 2 will be Job onRy.

Originally, they said classes would be better suited for solo content...but that really didn't play out. Partly because there's really not much advantage to more cross class skills, and partly because what little solo content there is, is pretty dang easy.
People have been saying this from the introduction of jobs way back in 1.0.
The class system actually creates more restrictions while it continues to exist and be a languishing system.
I always went THM for garuda ex to provoke spiny and replace OT slot.
I used classes while soloing in pre-ARR as opposed to never in ARR. If I recall correctly, jobs weren't straight up stat-boosts across the board like they are now. If I was a Lancer, I'd have more HP but less strength. But since a DRG was for parties, you'd give up the HP for extra damage.
I'm fine if I never have to use classes again after 30.
They're just all the same and bland.
They are useless but also boring so just leave the as they are or cut them out.
i feel classes make sense as a sort of progression... since it wouldn't make sense to start off as a full fledged dragoon, but besides that they don't even exist as far as i'm concerned in endgame pve
This entire thread is making me mad. Classes are meant to be a base that you require in order to advance. This is exactly the same thing that they use in many other MMOs except it's dressed differently. Think of it like this :
- If you're in the army or working somewhere and you're promoted to a higher rank, are you going to go back to your old position? NO, you're going to utilize the shit you learned in your last position to aid you while you're simultaneously able to do more advanced work.
- If you're taking a math class in school and do so well that you're in math R next year, are you going to claim that the old math class you took was boring and useless? NO, you're going to utilize the shit you learned in that math class to help you in the new more advanced class.
Jobs are in the game as a sort of progression just like any other progression system in other games. It's like in another game when you learn a new skill that is far better than one of your current skills in every way. That old skill wasn't useless, there's just a better form of it that symbolizes your character advancing in the world. I hate this thread you guys just aren't getting it.
This is definitely not an issue of existing assets from 1.0. At launch, my CNJ had all elemental abilities and my THM all dark/light abilities. My individual skills (i.e. Water, Fire, Aero) would raise, and I could "spec" them. I also had a customization system through Guild Marks, through which I could buy unique skills... and even then, most abilities could be used regardless of your weapon (i.e. cross-classed to wherever you want.)They had an idea to go in one direction but didn't want to abandon all the existing assets from the 1.0 engine. So we're instead left with this mess of a compromise.
And when they finally do add more jobs, they're probably going to make sweeping changes. It's the same thing for Materia system, now they're developing a new one.
Hardly an issue of 1.0 assets being wasted. Yoshida completely scrapped every skill-related system from 1.0 before jobs were introduced.
When jobs were announced, idea was that classes were for solo content or small-group content because of versatility. An ARC could also be a backup healer and a CNJ could equip defensive abilities to save their lives. I know I went THM to Ifrit often so that I could have defensive moves to mitigate Hellfire, and cure for those OSHIT moments. The reality of present-day FFXIV is that the game is so easy that there's never a need for those "backup" plans, so higher DPS is always preferable.
