Everquest 1 is still around and you can indulge all your stuck-in-the-late-90s, masochistic tenancies there. Please stop trying to ruin good games with them.
This is the main reason that I pretty much quit the game, but I still occasionally check the forums.. the patches just look too damn good.
I however don't think they're going to change the way it is right now anytime soon, maybe wait for the 1st expansion?

Every time I see a post about wanting open world content, it's a lot of talk and not a lot of actual request. Here are things that could be added to current open world.
A) New Beastmen Tribe quest that is tailored to players with ilvl 70+
B) More End Game FATEs like Odin and Behemoth
C) Quest System that require a light and full party similar to SWTOR Heroics
As for the people wanting more open world I have a question. Do you run the two open world content from 2.1, beastmen tribe and treasure map? If no why not?

Well servers wouldn't buckle if people didn't engage in that content. Guess that means they like it. Also it's a bad policy to stop releasing content simple because fear that the servers can't take it.

Unique, certainly - I for one appreciate FFXI and what it brought to the MMO genre. But the more "unique" something is, the fewer people there will be that like it (and those who do like it will, most likely, be die-hards).
Back on topic, though: More open-world content would be nice. As to what they could add that would actually work well with the current system I haven't a clue, but given how many people have been asking for it, I would assume they've at least investigated as to what they can edit or add to bring in a satisfactory amount of open-world content.

Pick up a gathering class, it will give you reason enough to venture outside the city.
As for camping NM's if you want that then go to FFXI, the majority of people who play modern MMO's don't want to be standing around waiting for a monster to spawn.
More large scale FATEs would be welcome, but they first need to fix the limitations of the system.

I hope we're still able to!

Uhm, gathering, grinding for mats. hunting logs, achievements, etc...just cause you ignored/completed some of it, doesn't mean it's not there.
But i agree, there's lots of ppl just standing around in towns, waiting for PF. would be nice to see people move around a bit.
But this happens in all games. Some places turn into hubs, and everyone go there and camp.
you are funny.Personally I HATE dungeons (you really can't achieve anything more repetitive) and would LOVE some big open world dungeons to explore.
Not to mention. Camping vs dungeon queues.
Camping
-stay as long as you can hold a group together (promotes socialization)
-downtime throughout (promotes socialization)
-pick your group which also often leads to making friends to have future groups together (need I say it again)
-generally you can "pick your difficulty" (hard dense camps for higher people vs safe camps for new people)
Dungeons
-get in and out as fast as humanly possible (promotes not taking time to type more than 1 liners)
-^ so much for your downtime chat (less socialization)
-generally tuned to the lowest possible difficulty as it is expected that people don't know each other/have any level of coordination
-uses systems like roulette which discourages friends grouping up (less socialization)
-throws you into multi server groups that make it pointless getting to know people anyway since you can't see them again (less socialization)
EVERYTHING about DF systems discourages being a actual social human being or part of any community in general. PF system is the PERFECT compromise to "/cry we don't want to shout for groups" and it should have been left there. Sadly I dunno if we will ever get real open world content.
If there's something more repetitive than dungeon grinding, it's camp-grinding, the same spot, over and over.
the purpose of it was to level up, which isnt very time consuming or hard, in XIV.
I met lots of nice people, while socializing between FATE spawns, and DF/PF...so duno what you're complaining about. you're not seeing the forest, cause of the trees.
Open-world caverns and such, would be nice though, but wouldn't add anything.
You got beastmen strongholds, u'ghmoro cave, etc. adding more/bigger variations....yah, no, wouldn't do much.
they have a 2year roadmap, and working on 3.0 expansion...so we'll see what they do.
but there's frontline pvp coming, which is FC vs FC?
They mentioned Primals as FATEs, and you could summon them, as FC skill.Pick up a gathering class, it will give you reason enough to venture outside the city.
As for camping NM's if you want that then go to FFXI, the majority of people who play modern MMO's don't want to be standing around waiting for a monster to spawn.
More large scale FATEs would be welcome, but they first need to fix the limitations of the system.
Would be nice with Frontlines, with 2 big FC clashing, using Primal Summoning.

When they reintroduce stuff like Faction Leves, meaningful Beastmen Strongholds outside of easy dailies and even a Hamlet or Caravan like activity except actually fun this time, so probably never.
