Use a linkshell to make friends first before deciding if you trust them enough? It'd be nice if there was an option to put on the lowest rank that won't allow that rank to get leader in such cases, though.

Yes! Some sort of control/setting. As of now I Don't want to offer anymore invites to my FC. What kind of attitude is that for an MMO? Basically My friend And I started this Free company. If we want total security it has to stay that way permanently.

Seriously? What kind of attitude is your attitude for an MMO? You've apparently minimized your interactions with other players, barely trust those you do interact with and considering you seem to be planning to drop your subscription for perhaps months at a time don't seem all that interested in playing in the first place.
No that doesn't seem right, but if you plan to run a very slack guild you should probably kick everyone and invite them to an LS instead, where there is no risk of what you mentioned above happening.First Ill state that I wanted to explain more in my first post but that 1000 character cap left me with little options.
I totally agree with If I wasn't going to play I would give someone the power that I trusted. But the one person I trust the most in my FC plays almost the same games as me most of the time. What happens If we get caught up in another game together? I go on holidays or whatever. Leadership gets passed onto one of the new members who joined couple months ago. My FC it has basically been only me and my friend lvling it up. Minus some randoms who haven't been on since Nov. I swear it was only the two of us from rank 2-5. Then last month I was approached by someone (John we'll call him) looking for a new FC. Now let's say Day15 of my hiatus John recruits a new player and lets him join the FC. Day28 John takes a break for personal matters. 7days go buy and since the new guy was the only one logged on in the passed 7days he becomes the new leader. This seem right?
From the sounds of it your FC doesn't sound very fun to be in anyway.
I think some people just don't read and mouth off.
firstly it's impossible to randomly get a new leader. It has to be for 35days. That means it exceeds a monthly subscription allowing anyone who stops subscription to start it up after 30days.
Then it has to be based on officership which makes it impossible for a stranger to get leadership. It would have to be someone who already has the trust of the FC.
Finally it has to be the most senior officer. A new officer can not be made leader. It would be the oldest and thus the most obvious choice to be the next leader.
All I can see in this thread are jerk leaders who shouldn't be leader, if they object to this.
If you're not gonna sub, pass leadership to a friend. If you don't have a friend you can trust this much in your fc, disband it =D
I have a question:
The patch notes said nothing about the leader having to unsub for 35 days, it said if he doesn't log on during 35 days.
Yet many people here seem to make a point out of the subscription fee. So which is it...?
I dont want the deciding fate of the free company I built 90% of. Just to have some new player take it over. I also don't feel like paying for a whole month If I'm lucky to get a couple hours out of it at the most. New games get released and Id rather enjoy those without worrying about my ffxiv content being secure. This is not me being a dick or a jerk. I just see a threat that may not work for all. Definitely beneficial for some cases, but it has it flaws.Seriously? What kind of attitude is your attitude for an MMO? If this is the case some worries can be settled. I just hope this can't abused, in which I fear. Thank you for this information Seriously!
If you aren't gonna be online, and you have zero people you can trust.. then it'd probably be better to tell everyone that you're leaving and you're going to kick them (maybe offer them a LS invite instead so that they can all keep in contact, and you can still be part of their group when/if you do come back) so you can retain leadership while you're gone.
As others have pointed out, FC's are suppose to be a group thing, they are suppose to have a leader, and when a leader abandons them, FC's should have some power to get access to stuff they contributed to. Our leader recently quit, and he passed the torch on. If he'd just stopped logging in instead, with everything the guild had contributed to the guild bank and all that, you can bet a good number of us would have been upset. A good leader is going to appoint someone in their stead before bailing on the members, and I would wager that most people who made an FC to treat FC housing as personal housing only really have themselves in it.. maybe a friend or two where this isn't actually a problem. An FC truly is not meant to revolve around a person, that isn't it's function at all. If you want to bend it's function into that, you shouldn't really be inviting others into it to begin with.
