No, the fall of Nym happened in 6UE. 6AE lasted for 1573 years (if there is a year 0, otherwise 1572 years), so it was at least that long ago. Plus it ended with the plague, long before 1000 years had passed. Dravania and Ishgard have been at war since approx. 6AE 572, which is 1005 years before the current time.

Ishgard has always been supposed to open "soon", we waited for it to happen in version 1 and we're waiting for it to happen now, never was it stated that it would not happen until an expansion (though it has been said that it "might be the case").

I think after these places, we'll finally leave to the Empire proper. I'm just anxious to see these new places
Well first we need to consider the current storyline of the game being that..

2.0 - Return of the Warriors of Light Arc

2.X - Rise of the Primals Arc

    3.0- 1st expansion story Arc.

So far being in 2.X story Arc it covers the Warriors of Light battle with all the primals of Eorzea being that we will fight Leviathan soon and Ramuh in the future 2.X story later and Shiva will either be the final 2.X story or the first part of 1st expansion storyline as we work to convince Ishgard to finally join the City-State Alliance so Eorzea can be united and finally be strong enough to make the final push to kick Garlean Empire out of Eorzea.

We know so far that Ramuh will be part of the 2.X arc but Shiva is the last of Eorzea's Primal so her position in story Arc is a bit unknown for now because if we get Shiva as the final 2.X story then we will most likely see more of Ishgard's areas being released before 1st expansion. If so that would also provide a story reason why Ishgard will open gates to outsiders in 1st expansion story Arc being that the City-State Alliance and Scion's actions by defeating Shiva has convinced the Pope of Ishgard's religion (still hate the Ishgard's "We have religion and you don't so we are better than you" attitude) and Inquisition to invite the Hero or Heroine who defeated Shiva into Ishgard to congratulate him or her personally.

Also once all of Eorzea's Primals are finished we will be seeing new Primals located in the other Continents since FF14 Lore does state there are other Primals located in other Continents but that a bit too a head of FF14 story being 2nd expansion range.

As I stated in my posts this are all "If" scenarios.

I never said this will happen but right now it is the most likely scenario being that 2.X story is focused on fighting each remaining Primal of Eorzea currently with Levithan being 2.2 and Ramuh (either in 2.3, 2.4, or 2.5) being within one of the upcoming 2.X updates while Shiva being held back as the last Primal because she is location in Ishgard's area and there is no knowledge about her existance yet so any effort to fight her has not been developed by the Scions nor City-state.

Not to mention Ishgard has been very protective about letting outsiders into their City-State who are not natural born Ishgardians so they will need a very good reason to allow any outsiders into Ishgard and what better reason than the defeat of Shiva which has already been hinted that she is located near Ishgard with the Giants being her beast tribe. It has already been stated in the Lore of Ishgard in 2.0 that something far north in Ishgard is calling the Giants to that area and is the possible cause of Ishgard's strange long snow weather.

Knowledge of other Primal beyond Eorzea in the other continents is already in the game as well. You can speak with the Summoner trainer and learn that the Allagan did encounter Primals on other Continents that were not the Primals of Eorzea.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

Well if they add a FF14 version of Kefka they need to make him right.

It sound like the expansion pack is about the end of the 5th astral era lore

The Fifth Astral Era is said to have begun approximately three millenia ago.
The ice age that ushered in the Fifth Umbral Era made the land a barren and merciless place, and man was pushedd to the limits of his resourcefulness in the struggle to survive. Yet survive he did, through the discovery of magic as we know it - an event which marked the dawning of the Fifth Astral Era.
At first, man was well pleased just to have the means to keep the cold at bay and compete with the other races. But man is nothing if not an ambitious beast. It was not long before he began to seek mightier magicks, hoping to win greater glory.
It was this desire that brought forth black magic, the arcane art of destruction, into the world. In order that this force of chaos be kept in check and balance preserved, at roughly the same point in history, white magic, the arcane art of succor, came into existence.
Emboldened by magic, man went on to reach the zenith of glory. But his hunger knew no bounds. Over time, even they who donned the white began perverting their powers for the sake of self-gain, and in this single-minded pursuit scrupled not to sully the sanctity of the Twelveswood.
In his pride and avarice, man brought down the wrath of the elementals upon himself.
A great deluge was sent to cleanse the land of his wicked presence, in the wake of which the forest rose to swallow up all that was not washed away. Thus did the Six Umbral Era begin ... or so it is told.
