The Expansion Theme - "1,000 Year War" War of the Magi

I agree with you here. I also think that this is where we'll be going really before we leave Eorzea in any way. The fact that he hinted at artwork for Sharlayan already done, leads me to believe we'll be traveling there at some point. Personally, I've waited a long time to see it.

I'm not worried about this issue because Expansion content does not mean they are restricted to only 1 new area for expansions. (considering we will only get 1 expansion per 2 years.)


They can simply release Sharlayan, Ala Mhigo, Ishgard, and Garlean Empire for 1st expansion due to the storyline of 1st expansion to be based on the War of the Magi.

Currently 2.1 has already set the stage for us to go to Sharlayan since the Circle of Knowing base was attacked and all contant has been lost in 2.1.

Ishgard has already been confirmed by yoshi-P to open in 1st expansion.

Ala Mhigo is most likely the place we have to go first before we can enter the Garlean Empire for the Final part of the 1st expansion storyline if Garlean Empire is in 1st expansion beginning the long awaited Battle for Ala Mhigo where all of Eorzea is finally united to form a force strong enough to defeat the last Garlean Super Fortress being Ala Mhigo finally open the path into the Garlean Empire and finally end this war between Eorzea and the Garlean Empire.

if all these places are release most likely we will follow a process of Ishgard area -> Sharlayan area -> Ala Mhigo -> Garlean Empire for the 1st expansion storyline.

Or, you know, we could have this crazy idea of it being it's own story and not a whole expansion based off of "Ehh Ehh? Remember final fantasy VI? Eeeeeh?

If 1st expansion storyline is based on the War of the Magi then most likely the final battle/Final boss/Final part of Main Scenario will not be in Eorzea but in the Garlean Empire meaning we may get the Garlean Empire in 1st expansion.

Also Yoshi-P did state he will not release the Gunblade class/job until the Garlean Empire can be accessed since that is where the Gunblade class guild is located.

We also may get the FF14 version of Kefka.

I believe this too, though I have thought of a few ways it might be implemented. Either way, I am totes excited.

Well I didn't mean we'll only see Sharlayan per sey, just using that as an example. Honestly, I think the first expansion will be the entire northern area of Eorzea we currently do not have access to: Ala Mhigo, Sharlayan, Ishgard, Dravania, and Xelgkatoi. I think after these places, we'll finally leave to the Empire proper. I'm just anxious to see these new places

The War of the Magi, between Nym and Amdapor, lasted much less than one thousand years.
If they introduce newly revealed areas before the ones we have been waiting for since 2010: Sharlayan, Ala Mhigo and Ishgard (which by the way has been at war with dragons since approx. 6AE 500, or ~1000 years ago), I'm going to be really, really disappointed.

Wasn't it 1000 years since the fall of Nym due to the tonberry plague? Probably irrelevant, though; the 1000-year war is between Ishgard and the Dravanian horde. Unless I am remembering incorrectly, we've known that the first expansion was supposed to be about Ishgard since before ARR launched. Sharlayan is likely related to these. Ala Mhigo is empire business and will probably have to wait for the second expansion.

Ahh --- I had no idea the war between Ishgard and the dragons lasted 1000 years. I wonder if there will be a mix between this and FF3/6? Narshe was a mining town in the icy mountains --- It wouldn't be too out of place in Coerthas One can only hope I suppose!

I'm sure it will be its own story. The story thus far certainly hasn't been a remake of FFVI, which had a theme about how humanity, by its ever increasing technology, was reaching a level of power and ability originally the soul domain of the gods. The ending of the first story arc could be interpreted as the complete opposite message if looked at in the context of FFVI, but I digress.

Q55: There are a lot of names from Ivalice such as Dalmasca, Belias, and Zodiak that have been mentioned, is there some connection between Hydaelyn and Ivalice?

A55: To be absolutely clear, there is no connection between FFXIV’s Hydaelyn and FFXII’s Ivalice. Likewise there is no connection with FFXI’s Vana’diel. Each are their own individual world. Based on this, there are connections between the things that appear in the world, and we’ll be revealing more in the future.

The game will more than likely include more nods to other entries in the series, much like FFIV did with using the name "Mysidia" from FFII, but outside of that, they aren't going to be retelling stories or making connections with "other worlds".

When? I certainly haven't heard anything about it.
