Happens so much when dotting up
i find it quite fun actually on the high movement fight like Primal Xm. I give me reason to use ManaWall, ManaWard, and Aether Manipulation. I often pop Manaward to eat plume and BOmb so i dont have to move. and poping Manawall against Land slide still make me smile every time xD. ( it my personal screw you, Titan, button.
How do you think melee feel when they have to move out of all the crap that affects them?
I hear ya op!
for the first time in 3 years im starting to like ffxiv.
however with that being said.
this is also the first final fantasy i didnt like any of the casting classes.
I get it all the moving around with the melee you wanna feel like "oh man did you see me dodge that and lb this" but it just feels wrong on a caster class.
If blm was changed so that they can move while casting, I'm more than positive their overall damage output would be severely nerfed and blm would simply cease to be blm.
Indeed. It's kinda dumb. I mean it makes sense that archers need to look at the target to make the aim but for casters, we play with our magic spells, why do we have to face the target in order for a successful cast? Same for arcanist, they have to use left eye to look at their book, reading while the right eye locked on the target in order for their spell to land too, huh? lol
^This. Manawall/ward are the best skills in the game IMHO. There's nothing like taking a Titan Landslide or Ultima bomb to the face for almost no damage. It drives me nuts too when things like satin plume in ruda ex move past you as you're casting canceling your cast. GAH! lol.Manawall, aetherial manipulation and just plain old learning the fight are the ways to get round this. The only thing that annoys me now is an enemy moving behind you during casting. I don't think it'd screw things up too much if they had it behave like curing spells instead.
Titan EX, yes. That fight pushes everyone around constantly and is especially punishing to black mages as a result. But really, Garuda EX? You barely budge when there's something to attack. And Ifrit -- what, do you really think melee DPS have it any better? They have to run away as well and have no useful instant/ranged ability (unlike Scathe). And really, Succubi, whose signature ability is Dark Mist, a PBAoE undispellable stun? Dullahans, who have no ranged attacks whatsoever? And what exactly does Overpower have to do with BLM moving?
I kind of enjoy having to position myself well and generally time my casts correctly to get as much damage in as I can with movement heavy fights. It's part of the fun for me I think.
Those who have mentioned the spells getting cancelled when stuff moves behind you and what not, there is a way to help with that. I use legacy movement so I can't turn my character with my camera, but in keybinds under the targetting tab there is a face target keybind. Set something that is easy for you to hit there and use it when enemies are moving so that you turn to face them while casting, it helps a lot!
I understand the pain too, but honestly I just got used to it. There will be some fights in our favor where we can stand back and cast, and then ones like the EXT's and HM's and Ultima HM...etc where we need to move a bit.
I still love BLM![]()
MEGA CUTENESS ATTACK! SUPER EFFECTIVE!
