Black Mage is not fun to me anymore.

Ever since movement cancel for spells has been implemented, it's always made me feel uneasy. With all fights currently, you have to move so much. Always interrupting my flow, it just gets so tiring.

Titan Ex, Garuda Ex, Ifrit Ex, Succubi, Dalahuns, Overpower TP skill, etc.

This game heavily makes black mage have to move. In my opinion it's too much. Being able to move and cast needs to be re-implemented. It's like everyone is a weaponskill or special ability going off every 2 seconds.

I don't understand how the game can be so fast paced, yet want the casters to be so slow with casting times and expect us to move so often when casting get interrupted upon moving.

Is there no compromise for Disciples of Magic to be able to move and cast? Like a small damage reduction if you move and a buff to when you stand still?

I'm sure every other black mage main will respond in the same exact manner. But if you find this troubling you should reconsider your job choice. It's for this exact reason why blm has burst damage as opposed to DoTs like smn uses. If you know how to play blm, movement in fights isn't an issue.

i get what you mean in a sense, but at the same time, i can do higher damage or at least one of the top damages in fights like titan ex. you need to figure out ways around moving. and know the patterns, so that you don't need to move all of the time. if landslide is coming, i stay in the back and hope it doesn't come my way. the only time i frantically move is to go back with the group to stack for plumes. you can also time things other ways. like when titan drops, i start casting thunder III, then run through him about 5 yalms behind his back, pop manawall, then start casting away, since it will soak the landslide. before heart i also pop swift cast as he drops, then raging strikes, then when the heart appears i hit thunder, run through him, then cast fire3, and get it off just in time before plumes come theres a lot of timing of spells and little tricks in fights like this. i wouldn't complain so much unless you were a monk. they are in dire need of an extension of great lightning duration to maybe 15 seconds. all of these bosses jumping make it near impossible to keep 3 stacks up

i could see if blm were doing significantly low dps on these types of fights, but they don't when played well, so its not really anything more than a preference. if they allowed you to move and cast, they'd probably be OP

I think it's quite fun optimizing up-time especially on fights with a lot of moves like Titan EX.
If you do it properly, you can do about 80-90% of your stand-and-cast damage.

If you are familiar with the enemy attacks, you will be able to estimate how long you can stay in the AoE until the attack proc.
For example, when the plumes are shown on the screen, if my castbar is around 60-70%, I will usually wait for the cast to finish then run away from the plumes. Of course this can change with your latency to the server but it is one way to optimize your up-time.

Other optimizations mainly involve utilizing your swiftcasts and saving procs and use them when you have to move.
Manawall helps too of course, especially after upheaval where Titan will cast landslide on you afterwards anyway making you unable to cast any spells in that period.

If you don't find this fun, then I guess you could try bard though. You might like utilizing songs and maintaining debuffs more.

Manawall, aetherial manipulation and just plain old learning the fight are the ways to get round this. The only thing that annoys me now is an enemy moving behind you during casting. I don't think it'd screw things up too much if they had it behave like curing spells instead.

Agreed with above, though I do think BLM should have a little higher single target DPS to reflect it's mostly stationary damage.

It's not damage I am talking about. It's the mechanic itself. We are required to move too much and It's making the class/job very boring to me.

The other DDs aren't appealing to me, even though they can move while attacking.

Of the other 4 DDs, in general:
_Summoner has same restriction as you do when they have to cast.
_Bard does the lowest DPS after the nerf to their cross-class abilities.
_Dragoon and Monk can move while attacking but the positional requirements make them vulnerable to positioning for a specific mechanics leading to lower DPS.
Black Mage's requirements is to balance out their DPS. I greatly enjoy it when I play Black Mage.

    Agree.

It is extremely annoying trying to shoot moving targets on this game due to my character's inability to turn his head while casting. I always find LoS annoying on games. But on this one it takes on a whole new level of annoyance. I would like to see it changed.
