I'm as Noobish as a Level 50 can get. I always say this is my 1st time in a particular dungeon and it never fails that 1 or 2 people leave immediately when I say that. I have yet to do any level 50 dungeons because people leave all the dang time. I will always say I'm new, because they need to know that and I would like advice as I go along. I watch videos, but by the time I'm playing I forget everything, so I like to be told what to do as it is about to happen.

I've only done tank in castrum merdianum twice. I've always been on my main before but I decided I'd start doing ms roulette. I told people I'm new the first time I went. That's cool the other WAR was in a lot of Allagan/Myth pieces. They did most of the pulls. I knew generally what parts would be pulled to what cannons.

Come yesterday I got castrum meridanum again. People want a speedrun and I see that I'm going to end up being the MT as the other PLD isn't doing anything and is lesser geared. I told them I'm new to tanking CM. No one said anything about it and just said "go??" So I pulled the first searchlight. We get it done. 2nd searchlight, it becomes a mess as it draws every single garlean near there into it, almost like doing a DD mob exp run to the crystal room. Most of us die and we end up continuing once more with quite a few grumbles. Get to the first set of cannons and several of them are lost because I lose aggro or so and they got to them while I try and herd them away from the cannons but in range. SCH says "tanking is easy here. a monkey can do it." Other tank was almost always on the cannons while I went to do the pulls I remember others doing. Take them away from the searchlights... colossus etc. I get it. I wasn't able to hold the mob at the cannon but jeezus.

How dare you try to help people. That is something that is not welcome in MMO. it is the players $15 a month and if they want to derp around, screw up, die, not try to get better that's their prerogative because you're not paying the sub.

That is the menatility of some of these players and it is stupid. When we try to help we get called elitest. So being an elitest means I offer help, learn from fights, and try to improve? I am perfectly fine with being called an elitest, but that is not being an elitest that is just being a good player.

Thanks! I got lots of rude and/or funny names for places, weapons, things in this game...mainly because I'm too lazy to pronounce/spell them correctly

    I'll take that bonus point!

thx for not flaming this post. I play this game to have fun. fun is not wiping on an easy mechanic that a person refuses to ask for help in understanding it. I am starting to believe that elitests have always been there. however I do see the attitude has spread. when u have a whole sale large scale quantity of people who won t ask for help as opposed to the 2 out of 10 that will ask for help. leaving 8/10 who sit there with thumbs up there asses. I see why that mentality spread and I wish it didn't go so large scale. also the sheer amount of people who will not videos is obscenely large so yeah this problem is like having conjoined twins that wont help each other lol

It only takes one A-hole to make people not want to ask though that is the problem.

But agree that it's always best to ask questions before hand, assuming the tank will give you chance to hear the answer .

Being new to the game, when I enter the party I always start with "Hey, I'm new at the dungeon/role, would appreciate tips". On sub-50 content people were always happy to explain tactics, but things changed when I got into endgame stuff.

People at this point are expecting farm runs, even when going in DF. I haven't completed Ifrit HM yet, mostly due to people failing at mechanics but also because tanks drop group when I mention that I'm new (I play healer most of the times). Usually I'm the last man standing, but hey we clearly died due to me being a fresh 50. Another example, I was healing Titan story mode at level 34 on a cholar, before I got Succor. I was able to keep the party up through all the AoE relatively comfortably (go go split Faerie healing and Whispering Dawn), but I still got flak from the tank for not going in at 35 and being optimal.

Having said and experienced that, I fully understand why people are silent when they're new to the instance.

That's sadly one of the problems with this Game's community. Happened to me once too. I started the dungeon with saying "1st time tanking this dungeon". And before I could say "but I know the dungeon itself in and out from at least 5 different roles", 2 people left already lol. That's also a reason why some remain quiet although it would be better to tell the group that they are new. If you got kicked or left alone once for saying "newbie here", you will prolly think twice about stating that again.

It goes both ways. If someone is eating Landslides at titan repeatedly, doing a floorcheck is fully appropriate to make sure they're on the same page as everyone else. If they cop an attitude that you're being condenscending, then it's their fault, since odds are, their failure to grasp the mechanic is likely a make/break point for the group. It's on them to humble up and admit they could use a little help, or explain that their ping is through the roof, etc. Most groups would rather wait a minute for a lag spike to pass than battle epeens

On the other hand, iLvl nazi's are going to balk and walk at the drop of a hat. They're better off rotting in the queues than in a dungeon anyway. You can't stop them, so don't get worked up over bad players.

Attitude is half the game. If you can't get over yourself, you're not at the top.

i made both experiences. I had people even leave . i told a blm who was going through the dungeon casting blizz III only not to run out of mp or for whatever reason....
I was very friendly and just gave him some easy tips about the rotation and that he will do significant more dmg and have more fun on his blm... he left ...

Another time it was a group of 3 friends, they DF me as tank, and all were quite new. mostly AF geared. All of their jobs didnt do anything like a rotation or positioning.
It took ages. And we failed on first boss badly... then before 2nd try i was asking them if i could give them some hints. They were very happy about it and it went smooth until the end.
    got 3 commendations.

When i started on my blm my dmg REALLY sucked, i felt bad, and i felt so unerwhelming. A guy from FC told me in /tell i should talk to XXX about the rotation. I did and it was a HUGE difference...
i was happy and its still kinda of my main class, i love it.
