I think my character represents me.
If people like to roleplay in different sex than their own, that is their choice.

Goodbye, Final Fantasy...

I get to be a male mithra, you have no idea how long I've waited for that. ._.

Once, during a fate grind, a little naked Lalafell came up to me and told me I was sexy. Somehow it's just not as creepy when you're a dude character haha. Now when we see each other around we dance and speak broken English & JapaneseIn our underpants.

Yeah, that's how you end up on To Catch a Predator. Their innocence can be deceiving.
Because.......

Short answer: Because catboys are hot.
Long answer: I find that I don't get harassed as often on a male character as I do female. My habit of playing male characters started in the first MMO I played, though in there, my main character was still a female, but I had an alt who was male. When I moved to Aion, I again made a female as my main, but I made plenty of male characters too since Aion had such a wonderful character creation. After Aion, I moved on to TERA. This was the first major game I'd played where my main was a male character. This was partly due to the fact male elves in TERA are gorgeous, but also the fact I didn't like a lot of the overly sexualized armor on females at first (plus I figured if there's one game I'll be sure to get harassed in by gross perverts, it'd be TERA). I have about an equal number of male and female characters on there now, but my main is still my male elf priest.
When it comes to ARR, I initially wasn't interested in it (because I wasn't in a position to play it), but I became more and more interested in it the more I saw male miqo'te on Tumblr. I apparently have a thing for catboys or something lol. So, when I did finally get the game and start playing, my main was, of course, a male miqo'te. And despite having a few more catboys on my character roster, I still love my main the most. Plus, again, less harassment as a male character.
TL;DR I play male characters both because they look good and I like having some eyecandy to look at while I play, and because they offer a sort of "protection" against a lot of internet creepers who would normally harass a female character just because the character is female.

The original reason and basically the core of my reason, is simply because I'm a guy.
And later on it evolved on it displaying/showing how I try to act in real life and well I can't do that if i'm a female character ^.^;;
I am a winner, even though I sometimes fail.

Because it's cool.
Because it's an MMORPG and I play it as such. I'm male in real life and role playing as this heroic adventurer feels natural. And I'm not even talking about role playing with other PCs. I'm more referring to the story elements. I'd rather be able to relate to my avatar than to have something pretty to look at.
I get that some people play the game like they'd play Tomb Raider or something similar. They don't put themselves in the shoes of the protagonist directly, but personally, I'd rather think of my character as being an extension of myself.
