Gilsellers still have to pay a monthly sub ( or another FFXIV code).

Even if 100k of those are gilsellers there is still 400k+ players which is still a lot. Either way SE is making money.

Edit: Also your server could be one of the low pop servers, The Launch of the game needed more servers to accommodate the mass run of people.

If your wishes fall on deaf ears, vote with your wallet tell them that they are doing a poor job keeping your interest by moving on to a new game. It's harsh and it sucks if you enjoy the game slightly but in the end it's best to leave the game to grow on it's own if they start to add in design that you enjoy, come back in show them they have done something right.
Exactly what i have done! Myself, wife and daughter started about 6 months after original release and i had so much hope for this game but alas the devs vision is nowhere near what i would have hoped it would be. We stuck it out until last week before we came to the conclusion that if we continue to pay them we are only supporting something we truly don't like. Needless to say we unsubed last week. Unfortunately there absolutely no other game we found so far that peeks our interest.

You guys need to back and read: Yoshi's Letter from the Producer XX

Where he says all sort of stuff like:

That’s why I think that in the world of the modern MMORPG, which should be everything like a theme park, diverse rides, facilities, and specs are an absolute necessity.
In the first generation of MMORPGs, the pyramids were skinny and tall. In the current generation, while I think the peak should still stay way up there, the slopes projecting down from it should be less extreme. What I want to make is a theme park where both casuals and hard-cores can exist and play together.
This is the established direction for this game from the very beginning. A very linear, non-exploratory, tons of instances, get-off-one-ride-get-on-another type game. I don't see any reason why this concrete vision of Yoshida's would ever change. FFXIV has subscriber numbers WAY greater than anything SE could have ever expected. It is a huge success - there is no way they are going to change the entire philosophy of the game now.

if you want 1% drop rates and horizontal progression go back to FF11. that stuff is gone with the dinosaurs, no one but a select few want it.

Yeah I'm sure my server has something to do with things feeling dead all the time. But also because there's really not much to do besides Coil (weekly lockout) Ext Primals (weekly weapon lockout/not much replay value). Other than that you're left with leveling craft/gather which don't really have much usefulness in this game and leveling jobs that you don't like.

If the patch offers more of the same
    Coil (just basically boss fights)
    Primal (boss fight)
    Hard mode dungeons
    Vanity stuff

Seems like content will become obsolete quick and players will get bored fast.

I just wish everyone would stop treating it as "this game doesn't suit me or other players like me, so that means it's bad".
Hilarious considering this direction for the game is the exact opposite of variety in the genre.

Check his join date then look at yours. People can argue all they want that the game started in August 2013 but for many it didn't. They put time and money (so much time now) into a character so they're invested in this game and this story and the world itself. For many players the stamina/fatigue system made them leave, some stuck around and some new players joined. What we ended up with near the end was 1.23. 1.23 honestly was the brightest part of the game. The community (same server of Balmung) was great even if it only had 3000 people on at primetime (NA/EU/JP). Artifact Gear required a party, Cutter's Cry and Aurum's Vale were actually very tough dungeons, weaponskills actually felt weighted and were nice to look at something we no longer have with the spam abilities, Hamlet was content that included DoH and DoL and despite at the time was horrible it really was unique and is something the game needs desperately, materia melds actually mattered and were bragging rights..you felt strong when you had those triple or quad melds (penta melds just didn't happen aside from the tier 1 materia spam for the crown), and an economy that included everything and everyone. Materials mattered in 1.23 and weren't so readily available, minigames kept bots from being able to farm things at 100% and flood the markets like we have now. Leves in 1.0 actually GAVE the crafted the materials and the shards to make the items and then turned around and gave rewards like diremite and flax...yet you check the market and people were buying the items because they were actually useful. Didn't mean to make this about the economy but man..

Yes we had low drop rates for Darklight gear but that was because we were stuck with the content while they made 2.0, something that many of us (myself included) thought was going to be a revamped 1.23 without the animation lock. No one wants a 1% drop rate so people need to stop with that BS, what people want are more reasons to do content with friends/associates/randoms and that means allowing RNG to be a factor..which it is in Labyrinth of the Ancients. Yes grinding is a pain but that feeling of when you get the drop you want makes everything feel better.

As for us 1.0 players, the Calamity came and we knew the game would change. But we didn't know it would change so much, especially since we lost "content" i.e. Hamlet, Chocobo Caravan, Battle Faction Leves, a real economy. So yeah call us entitled or whatever you want, tell us to leave and "go back to FFXI," a game which many left for FFXIV because it changed so much. But realize many of us were here before Dalamud and that many of us are going to be here when others have hopped ship. Eorzea is a second home and without feedback the furniture would just sit and get dusty, there's a reason these threads are popping up and it's not just a forum thing as you can ask players in game and get the same responses (this will be replied with "well I talked to people in game and they said they loved it".") it's just the forums are a place where players can post and hope it's being read and not being flooded out of sight with RMT gil selling shouts.

I and a lot of the players Legacy and otherwise, are fairly content with the game's course, realizing of course that the content will expand with time, rather than assuming a narrow bandwidth most others here are decrying.

There are many, many 1.0 players that, while fondly remember 1.23, are also content with the new version of the game. It comes as no small annoyance to me that some pretend to represent all. The number of people posting regally here do not, in the slightest, represent the majority, be they 2.0 players, or Legacy members.

I'm planning to continue playing ARR but, sadly, I'd have to agree with almost all the points you made about 2.0.... There's lots of stuff I enjoy in this game but I do wish the things you mentioned were done differently. If it weren't for the people I play with (FC/LS + few random friends) I think I'd find this game at least 80% less enjoyable. Other players (community in general) should, of course, be a part of and count towards a MMO's appeal, but I've never felt my enjoyment to be this dependant on having friends in a game. Taking into account all the cloned F2P ones I've played, as well as the subscription based ones. And it's mostly the people from 1.0 I know that stick together through it all....

I still miss a lot of my 1.0 friends who got scattered to other data centres due to wonky servers. As grim as 1.0 might have been, we still did manage to find fun and have a silly time together. Somehow ARR offers less enthusiasm to get immersed with other people. Especially outside instances. IDK....
