I'm not seeing the issue here. If this is a 1 weapon = 1 job change, then wouldn't that mean Gladiator's would no longer have access to 3 weapons? Ergo, that THF class you so desperately want would now be tied to daggers since GLDs already have their weapon (1H sword) and 3 weapons =/= 1 weapon.

Gladiators use any 1 handed bladed weapon.. so dagger=sword.

    I'll say it again.

KILL the Class system, and give us our traditional jobs to level up from lv. 1!!

And implement a camp party/moving party system on the way. = a.k.a. Some way to level up Without being tied to levequest every 36 hours.

If they're overhauling the system, would it not be reasonable to assume that they would split the 1H weapon into both daggers and swords, and give us THFs?

I'm not really seeing anything in here that's profoundly damning. All they're saying is that one weapon will equal one job -- which is pretty much how it is right now. If anything, the current system seems a little too open, in that you can put any ability in at any level, regardless of class/job, so long as your skill bar has enough room for it. While it means you have a more varied, open-ended style of play, getting that without any restriction whatsoever lends to classes not really feeling distinct. My CON and THM feel identical, along with my LNC and MRD, because I wind up using pretty much the same abilities for them, and the only difference is, in fact, their weapons.

If they can add class distinctiveness but still keep a measure of the variety that we see right now, it can only be a good thing.

Having a weapon define a class is never a good thing. Its more restrictive and down right moronic. A weapon shouldn't indicate how you play a game, your skill set should. And yes your con and thm feel the same because the armory system is junk. It looked good on paper, but its lifeless and bland in reality. The classes aren't unique, you just have one "adventurer" who is whatever his weapon tells him to be.

I'm touching a keyboard, i guess i work in IT. Well its almost lunch, guess i'll go make a sandwich so i pickup a knife. Sudenly i'm a cook holy hell. I make my food and go to eat it, now i'm a server! So i serve myself and eat my sandwich and go to throw my trash away... i'm touching trash, now i'm a janitor!

Yes, this sort of system makes perfect sense. You're taking a character and defining it by a pointless item. What is the difference between a club and a wand? Should that even matter? Shouldn't the skillset of the person holding it be more important?

You should choose a class, and pick what weapon you want to use. Not pick a weapon and be told your class(job/whatever you want to call it). Then again the whole "you can use any gear, its just not effective if you're not X class and at least Y level is also stupid".. but thats a whole different argument.

Jobs tied to the weapon class are an improvement over the current system (no job, only classes).

I think it may have been foolish to expect a full fledged, complex job system as a first step. Now they start with something simple, they will evaluate how it evolves with the new combat system and associated new content, then they can build on it and add different jobs for a same weapon, or untie the job from the weapon, and also create new weapon classes with associated new jobs.

I see no solid base for assuming that the dev team has permantently given up on jobs like thief and summoner, or puppet master just because the first step of the job system is conservative.

Your title made me mad. Grown to hate seeing the word 'scrap'. But i agree they shouldn't lock one weapon to one job. It would also upset me if they only have one class that is a viable tank. Only noob MMO's do that...

and yet, with only 7 classes, which of what we have would want to/should be a pure tank? ehhhhhh one specialization kind of messes up a lot of things.

Cairdeas, you just wont quit with these threads, huh?
But fine... I will agree that it sucks since Glad=PLD, there will not be any damage dealing sword jobs in the game... at least for a while...
