Thancred's new THF/NIN Skills

While I don't think SE is planning on dropping any new classes/jobs on us real soon, they absolutely should. You've all seen it, everyone here gets worked into a frenzy any time anything can even remotely be interpreted as a new class. Obviously the community is desperate for one at this point.

Hmm, actually that cutscene didn't show him dual wielding daggers, not even once. Even when he threw them it was all with the same hand. Him dual wielding them in the new 2.2 cutscenes is completely new something he has never done before. So hence why some people got excited and started speculating.

Me? I think it's a cutscene and that Thancred is a main story character and as such he can wear and do whatever he wants. He doesn't fall in line and have to follow specific game rules like we do as players. Now, yes this is new, because any time he assists you in an instance so far he has just essentially been a Gladiator/Paladin (since he could use Cure) without a shield or heavy armor.

When he's been referenced as a bard, they mean the actual use of the term, not the XIV job. He spins tales with words.

He's a 1.0 BRD before anyone gave a crap about the rules and could equip anything :P

This video is a great example how of the storytelling in 1.0 was so unbelievably better than it is now. The Circle feels real, and powerful. They act like they know what they're doing and they are here for a purpose.

But they were only until storyquest r15 (the character meet only 1 of them) and in the last mainstory quest. 90% of the mainstory was about Minfilla, the Path of Twelve and our joyful Miqo'te companion.
And yes, i mean the original mainstory, not the 7th umbral era story that brought Yoshida later ingame.

Yes, which is why I'm particularly fond of Y'sh and Thancred and have no clue who Yda and Papalymo are - that ending though (to the original Tanaka storyline) was more or less where the Path & Circle stories were going to converge and progress onward. My wife - on the other hand - absolutely adores Yda and Papalymo, two characters that (from my perspective) could be taken out of ARR and absolutely nothing would change cause they add nothing and do nothing. Every character in ARR (except Cid) could easily be "stock NPC" and that includes the 3 Generals. If I didn't have feelings for them that carried over from 1.0, they would all be irrelevant - even Yoshida's 1.0 work was better told.

On the subject of Minfilia - she's the biggest culprit. I spend the entirety of ARR main story (of which I've done it 2x now) wondering why anyone listens to her or takes her seriously. What I want is a female lead who is strong, knowledgeable and commanding (something Merlwyb doesn't even do very well in ARR) and instead we have a confused little girl who's only job in the story is to get captured. I would have just as soon not saved her. "Oh darn. Empire got her. Back to killing Primals by myself, cause not like any of them ever really helped."

All echo users are immensely strong when they heed the call, the eiken slayer included. The ultima fight proved that. Just that there's a lot of off screen time.

Well... Dunno what to make of it really. Yes, it is a short clip, but it does seem like Thancred as fully changed jobs/classes to a THF/NIN... Note, he was a BRD before (Evident in some conversations in Revenants Toll)

Is this further evidence that a THF/NIN job is on its way, or not?

He could still be a bard and simply isn't encumbered by the limitations set on the players.

Thancred has always fought that way, and always used throwing knives. He's based on the 1.0 way of character design, where Gladiators had throwing daggers. Seeing him fight this way is nothing new.

Also, he was a "Bard", which is a person who travels/adventures so they can write songs/stories, before there was a "Bard" job in the game. He masquerading as a Bard in the profession sense, rather than the job/class archetype sense. Its like how someone can be a "gambler" but it means they just like to gamble, not that they use dice in combat.

This, he's a strong independent hyur that doesn't need a job class.
