Sounds like the other guy didn't pass. You left the zone too early and so the Spear dropped to the next in line - him. Pay more attention next time I guess.

Yea that CT issues was stupid but that not the topic at hand, OP lost the item to their own derpness, people need to learn how this game Final Fantasy XIV works and stop comparing it to other games. If a person thinks another games does stuff so well they should go back to that game. This has happened to me in coil with the caster head.
When CT was first released, if you didn't roll need/greed/pass, and you left the raid, you would be running around Mor Dhona and suddenly get a message saying you won the item. Yay, my week's loot privilege is gone >.>
I figured it worked the same way in coil. Item dropped, I rolled need, left the area. Nope. Loot dropped to someone else that stayed in the area. I submitted a ticket, GM told me tough S*&^. Talked to a senior GM, same answer.
Meanwhile, from my days playing WoW...
Join a group with a master loot system. Master looter ninjas an item won by another player. Make a GM call, GM review the logs, takes item from the master looter, gives it to the person who won the roll, temp bans the douchebag that ninja'd.
Tl;DR
SE devs should play WoW for about 6 months, and take some pointers from Blizzard's customer service; specifically their GM service.
That does suck. I had never really considered it a system limitation or anything because FFXI worked the same way. After about a decade of lotting on something and waiting for everyone else to lot/ pass/ leave it's just second nature. Still, SE could make a lot of people happy if they adopted a more hands on approach to their customer service. They will essentially do nothing unless the problem was completely their own fault. This situation in particular doesn't even have someone screwing anyone else over. The guy who has the lance would trade it to you if he could, but SE refuses to facilitate. It's like they have no interest in making people happy -- an odd attitude for a video game developer.
I guess just wait for a GM response, if they allow you both to trade the Spear then good news, if not then be more careful next time and remember you get NO loot unless you hear the little victory jingle and you don't leave the area before the loot has been claimed in the chat log, regardless if you're the only suitable class for the drop or not.
The GM will probably tell him the same thing I got told. If another player greeded, and it was in his inventory when he left the area, then it's his, and even if he wants to trade, the GMs don't have the power to do that.I guess just wait for a GM response, if they allow you both to trade the Spear then good news, if not then be more careful next time and remember you get NO loot unless you hear the little victory jingle and you don't leave the area before the loot has been claimed in the chat log, regardless if you're the only suitable class for the drop or not.
I was so tired and we had to fight her 8 times since we were carrying the healer. the point of our group is we get the item that belongs to our class unless we have it already. Everyone passed on it except the Bard....if he passed on it I would of got it right away. So I didn't even put thought into it. when I left the area I went to go put it on and bam. <;_;>

Anyways like everyone said, don't leave the area without seeing the loot in your inventory.
For our raid team, we always discuss before casting need/greed, then whoever supposed to pass just leave the area. Once the player who supposed to get the loot got it, then he leaves.
It should work even if you DC. There was once I rolled need in CT, and I was the only person eligible to cast need. Immediately I rolled, my internet was dropped due to ISP having a maintenance. I was without internet for a good 40mins or so, I thought it was a goner, but when I regained internet and logged it, I was automatically brought out of CT back to Mor Dhona, and the loot was in my inventory.
GM will likely not restore the item. By the time you get to turn 5 of coil if you don't know that if you leave an area you do not get the loot then you reeeeealy need to pay more attn. to whats going on in game. I don't believe this to be a design flaw either. If you want it that bad you make sure you get it.
Its like ordering a sandwich, paying for it, filling your soda, then walking out of the deli, going home then calling the deli and telling them they need to deliver it to your door cause you didn't know you didn't have it and if they don't they have bad customer service. Guess what. No sandwich for you.
C'mon, that's a ridiculous analogy. Yes he left without the item, but when he noticed his mistake (apparently a few minutes later) he tried to rectify it. It's not as if he's not trying to work with them to get his item. He provided some amount of proof and the person with the item admits that it should belong to the OP and is willing to part with it for that reason. SE just has terrible customer service. It's really more like ordering a sandwich and realizing you don't have it when you leave. When you walk right back inside they tell you it's too bad that you left without it cause they gave it to someone else as soon as the door closed. Not only that, the person who has your sandwich isn't allowed to give it to you. If you want another one you'd better buy another one.GM will likely not restore the item. By the time you get to turn 5 of coil if you don't know that if you leave an area you do not get the loot then you reeeeealy need to pay more attn. to whats going on in game. (Yes, I realize that's a bit silly as well)
In any case, it's well within SE's ability to fix the situation and it would improve their customers' perception of them, but they just won't budge.
As Ooshima said, that Bard that didn't pass on the drop is kind of a dick for doing that, if it were me personally and we'd all agreed beforehand on the loot drop and 1 individual decided not to play fair then I would've absolutely lost my shit and probably put my fist through my TV.I was so tired and we had to fight her 8 times since we were carrying the healer. the point of our group is we get the item that belongs to our class unless we have it already.
