This is not the case with FFXIV. A great chunk of the population is able and already cleard most (if not all) of the game content within weeks and it is still a long way before the first expansion.
While it's undeniable that it's faster to reach the level cap in FFXIV than it was in FFXI, don't forget that FFXI originally had a level 50 cap and the story ended at the Shadowlord fight. FFXI also didn't have an endgame until RotZ was released (or after a few patches I believe). Endgame consisted of camping Serket or the other NMs in the Jeuno areas.

FFXI had a lot less content at release than FFXIV had, the difference was that everything took a very long time to do.

Heck, most people when the game launched in NA were able to clear most content just fine, end-game wasn't even cleared by the Japanese players yet and they had a year headstart because the end-game content was still closed off until NA players caught up.

"I DONT LIKE CAPPED CONTENT NOT DOING IT!"

^ Was the only thing that held back people from completing it because they couldn't faceroll the content on their 75s, otherwise those who wanted to progress, progressed.

It seems you misunderstood what I was trying to state. This thread claim that FFXIV ARR is like FFXI pre CoP and I believe it is in reference to the players complaining about lack of content or boredom that resulted from clearing all the content with nothing left to do. My point had nothing to do with gated content or if the players could progress or not but rather I was pointing out that regardless of what content FFXI and FFXIV ARR had at launch, one fact remains true that make them never the same (in context of sitting down in game having nothing to do because you cleared everything). The majority of FFXI population did not hit level cap on multiple jobs and cleared everything in the game before its first expansion (it doesn't matter whether you want to go with RoZ or CoP as first expansion) Yes some players did but the majority did not which fostered the feeling that there is yet a long journey ahead of you to the majority of the population which in turn did not lead to the situation we are in with FFXIV. In FFXIV I believe the majority of the population cleared and done for a great deal of what the game offer and some cleared every single content the game has (in less than 6 months after FFXIV ARR launched) which lead to the feeling that the game lacks content and to feel bored because there is nothing left to clear.
